Beerman Adds Trent Farquhar to Staff as Hitting Coach

Michigan native played four seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies organization
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University Head Baseball Coach Trevor Beerman announced the hiring of Trent Farquhar as the program's hitting coach Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Farquhar joins the staff after spending the last four years playing in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Before the Phillies, the Michigan native spent a season playing at Bowling Green and three seasons at Michigan State, where he captained the team in his sophomore and junior seasons. Aside from playing, Farquhar has spent the last seven years as a player development instructor.

"A Michigan native with professional playing experience, Trent brings a wealth of knowledge, a strong work ethic, and a passion for developing student-athletes. His background and commitment to the game will make an immediate impact on our program, and we're excited to have him as part of our baseball family."
Farquhar brings several years of professional hitting experience and will return to his home state of Michigan as he originally hails from Highland. The incoming coach spent 2026 playing primarily second base for the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, the Philadelphia Phillies High-A team. The 25-year-old racked up 275 at-bats while driving in 22 runs. In the 2025 and 2024 seasons, Farquhar played at four different levels in the Phillies system and played with several Phillies top prospects, including Bryan Rincon and Dante Nori. In four total seasons with the Phillies organization, Farquhar competed at four different levels from Complex League to AA. The Spartan graduate competed in 245 minor league games, tallying 800 at-bats.

Prior to being signed by the Phillies as an undrafted free agent in 2023, Farquhar excelled at Michigan State as an infielder. The coach served as captain of the team during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Farquhar went to MSU as a preferred walk-on after one COVID-shortened season at Bowling Green. He earned a scholarship after his first season and became a three-time recipient of the Danny Litwhiler Defensive Player of the Year MSU Team Award, three-time Academic All-Big Ten and two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar recipient. In total, Farquhar had 174 hits, 42 doubles, 82 RBI, and posted a career batting average of .302 in his three-year career with the Spartans. Despite leaving to pursue professional baseball, he graduated from Michigan State with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology.
Since 2019, Farquhar has provided instruction to athletes ranging from 6–19 years of age and has worked on developing hitting, infield, baserunning, catcher and pitching skills.
Farquhar has also worked at the high school level for five seasons as a volunteer assistant for his alma mater, Lakeland High School. From 2021 to 2024, he served as a strength and conditioning coach where he programmed workouts for both male and female high school athletes and implemented programs for baseball, basketball, volleyball, and cross country.
Farquhar is a 2019 graduate of Lakeland High School in White Lake, Mich. The four-year letterwinner won a number of awards during his high school days, including Michigan High School All-State Dream Team Infielder and Lakeland High School Male Athlete of the Year in 2019. As of 2025, he is a member of the Lakeland High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
