Team’s 3.545 cumulative GPA leads the EMU men’s programs

GREENSBORO, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball program earned the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Award, the organization announced Wednesday, July 22.

The team posted a 3.545 cumulative GPA in the 2025-26 athletics season as teams were required to post at least a 3.00.

Following the conclusion of the spring semester, coaches were invited to nominate their teams for the award before the July 17 deadline. To qualify, a program was required to meet the following criteria:
  • Be a high school or college baseball program
  • Have a head coach who is a current ABCA member
  • Post a minimum cumulative team GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the 2025-26 academic year
The award continues the strong academic performance in 2025-26 as 11 Eagles were previously named Academic All-MAC, June 9, all recording cumulative GPAs above 3.20 and seeing action in at least 50% of the team's contests. Five Eagles, including returning right-handed pitcher John Carmichael (Destrehan, La./Destrehan/McLennan C.C.) earned a spot on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District list, recording GPAs of at least 3.50 while Carmichael specially posted a 4.00, and allowed just three runs in his final 21.2 innings of the season.

As a team, EMU baseball recorded the highest GPA from an EMU men's program in both the fall and winter semesters, posting a 3.580 in the fall and a 3.481 in the winter. It currently holds the highest cumulative GPA of any EMU men's program with a 3.545.
