Eagles Slated to Compete at Prestigious Post-Season Meets

The swimmers will compete at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships with the divers seeing action at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving teams will compete separately against some of the country's most talented swim and dive athletes, Thursday-Saturday, March 14-16. The swimmers are slated to attend the 2024 College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) National Invitational Championships in Ocala, Fla, while the divers will head to Louisville, Ky., for the 2024 NCAA Zone C Diving Championships.

Last Time Out: 2024 MAC Swimming and Diving Championships
The Eagles placed sixth at the conference championship meet, scoring 273 points, held Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 28-March 2.
Day One
Day one included just two relay events, the 200y medley relay, and the 800y freestyle relay.
The EMU all-freshmen team of Siporah Sang (London, Ontario/Sir Frederick Banting Secondary), Nina Larosa (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay), Tristen Mina (Santa Clara, Calif./The King's Academy), and Lucy Noble (Flagler Beach, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast) swam the Eagles' fastest time of the season in the event, finishing in 1:40.44 for a sixth-place outing, scoring 26 points for the Green and White.
The 800y freestyle relay also saw the Eagles place sixth. Ali Kudo (Guelph, Ontario/John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational), Emma Littrell (Taylor Mill, Ky./St. Henry District), Noble, and Kiersten Russell (Clinton, Mich./Saline) swam the distance in 7:24.96, capturing another 26 points.
The Eagles' 7:24.96 in the event marks a season-fastest by nearly 13 seconds as they swam their previous season-fastest time at the Denison Invitational, Nov. 30-Dec. 2, 2023.
Day Two
Day two featured five events – the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 1-meter dive and 400 medley relay.
In the first event of the day, the Eagles' had a pair of student-athletes qualify for the finals. Kudo reached the night race with her 12th-place effort in the prelims of 4:58.82. Teammate Russell was 15th after touching the wall in 4:59.32.
In the finals, Kudo took 13th with a time of 5:00.01 while Russell touched the wall in 5:05.98, which was good for 16th place.
Ashley George (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) took 23rd in the prelims with a mark of 5:01.81 while Morgan Hofmeister (Powell, Ohio) was right behind her, finishing in 5:02.46 for 24th place, marking a personal-best for the freshman. Littrell took 28th after touching the wall in a personal-best mark of 5:04.48.
The Eagles had five student-athletes compete in the 200y IM prelims. Mina was 21st with a personal-best time of 2:04.95 while Taylor Harris (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert/Bowling Green State University) was just behind her, touching the wall in a lifetime-best effort of 2:05.18. Olivia Clarino (Toronto, Ontario/Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute) notched a mark of 2:12.29 for 36th place while Larosa was 37th in 2:14.41. Sydney Ulmer (York, Pa./Central York) wrapped up the event in 38th after finishing in 2:15.06.
Katie Shoen (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy) qualified for the finals in the 50 free with a prelim effort of 23.22, which was good enough for 12th place. Freshman Marlee Christie (Seminole, Fla./Seminole) narrowly missed out on a finals appearance after completing the event in 23.57, marking a personal-best and finishing in 17th place. Fellow rookie Noble was 20th with a lifetime-best time of 23.67.
Ciara Wheeler (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) reached the podium after claiming a third-place finish in the 1-meter diving event. She registered a finals score of 257.85, besting her preliminary mark. Keira Veltigian (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) was right behind her, snagging a fourth-place finish. She posted a score of 256.75. Camryn Hughes (London, Ontario/Sir Frederick Banting Secondary) garnered a sixth-place effort with a mark of 254.20. The trio combined for 44 points for the Eagles.
The quartet of Sang, Harris, Mina and Christie registered a seventh-place finish in the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:44.50.
Day Three
Day three featured seven events – the 100 butterfly, 400y IM, 200y freestyle, 100y breaststroke, 100y backstroke, 200y freestyle relay and 3m diving.
Clarino got things off to a solid start for the Eagles with her 55.68 qualifying mark in the 100y butterfly prelims Friday morning. Mina narrowly missed out on a spot in the finals, placing 17th in 56.32. Katarina Pastar (Vienna, Austria/Gymnasium am Augarten) posted a time of 56.44 for 19th place. Sang garnered a personal-best time of 57.02 for 22nd place while Shoen completed the event in 57.18 for 25th place.
In the finals, Clarino picked up three points for the Eagles with her time of 55.71.
Junior Abby Szadorski (Oswego, Ill./Oswego East) and Hofmeister were 19th and 20th, respectively, in the 400y IM. Szadorski notched a time of 4:31.54 while Hofmeister registered a time of 4:32.86. Ulmer wrapped up the event with a 27th-place finish with a time of 4:43.04.
The 200y freestyle saw Littrell touch the wall in 20th place for the Eagles. The freshman notched a lifetime-best time of 1:51.70. Kudo was not far behind, snagging 22nd place with a mark of 1:52.14. Teammate George accounted for a 27th-place effort with a time of 1:52.87. Noble garnered a personal-best mark of 1:54.75, which was good for 34th place.
A trio of Eagles posted marks in the top-16 of the 100y breaststroke prelims, securing spots for them in the finals. Szadorski tallied a collegiate-best time of 1:02.84 for ninth place, besting Harris (10th place) by just 16 hundredths of a second (1:03.00). Rookie Larosa earned a spot in the finals with her 12th-place finish in 1:03.11.
In the finals, Larosa rose to the top. She touched the wall in 1:03.00, which was good enough for ninth place. The time also marks the seventh fastest in program history. Szadorski took home 11th place after recording a mark of 1:03.15. Harris was just behind her, snagging a 12th-place finish with a time of 1:03.42.
Russell secured a bid to the finals with a qualifying mark of 55.25 in the 100y backstroke prelims Friday morning. The time was good enough for 13th place. Sang narrowly missed out on the finals, posting a personal-best time of 55.79 for 18th place. Christie registered a time of 56.77 for 23rd place while fellow freshman Pastar was 27th after touching the wall in 58.22.
Russell accounted for a lifetime-best time of 54.33 in the finals, securing a ninth-place finish. The time marked the fifth-fastest in program history.
In the 3-meter diving, Hughes led the way for the Eagles with a 10th-place performance. She accounted for 271.70 points. Wheeler was 11th after totaling 254.35 points while Savannah Fisk (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) was 16th with 222.85 points.
The quartet of Shoen, Christie, Noble, and Russell swam the 200y freestyle relay in 1:31.82. The time was good enough for fourth place, helping the team pick up 30 points.
Day Four
Russell placed 13th in the 200y backstroke, punching her ticket to the finals. Freshman Sang finished 22nd in a personal-best, 2:03.57.
The freshman duo of Littrell and Christie placed 18th and 19th, missing the final cut by just two and three places, respectively, in the 100y freestyle. Littrell swam the distance in a personal-best, 51.28, while Christie clocked in at 51.44.
The 200y breaststroke saw strong performances from the Green and White. Szadorski bettered her eighth-best program time in the event as she touched the wall in 2:16.60, finishing 10th, and shaving 16 seconds off her previous lifetime-best. Joining Szadorski in the finals was Harris, who finished 12th in 2:18.22.
Another freshman duo flew high in the event, as Mina and Larosa finished 17th and 18th, missing the final cut by a mere one and two spots, respectively. Mina's 2:20.67 in the event marks a personal-best, while Larosa finished in 2:21.65.
Pastar made the final cut in the 200y butterfly, placing 14th in a lifetime-best, 2:04.56. Additionally, Pastar was one of just three freshmen to make the finals in the event.
Rebekah Knapp (Mesa, Ariz./Skyline) earned the Eagles' highest finish of the four-day meet, placing second in the 3m dive with a score of 301.15 points.

Select Eastern swimmers and divers have the opportunity to qualify for the 2024 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the Jack Bauerle Pool inside the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga., where the University of Georgia will serve as the host. If no swimmers or divers qualify, the 2023-24 season will come to a close.
