Cross Country Sets 16 Personal-Best In Two-Meet Day

Marchant finished seventh out of 402 competitors in the 6k while Peterson set a PR in the 8k in 23:32.6
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan men's and women's cross country programs competed in two meets Friday, Oct. 18. The EMU women came in 11th place in the 6k at the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M University at the Watts Cross Country Course, while the men took 12th in the 8k. At the Falcon Invite, hosted by Bowling Green State University at the Mel Brodt Cross Country Course in Bowling Green, Ohio, the Eagles came in 10th place behind Kent State in the women's 6k race.
Starting the day off in the Lone Star State, Paige Marchant (London, Ontario/Catholic Central) led the way in the women's race for Eastern Michigan with a personal-best 19:32 in the 6k to take seventh-place overall out of 402 total competitors.
In addition, Eastern Michigan had two other athletes in the women's race come in the top 100, including Marta Moreno (Wassenaar, Netherlands/American School of The Hague) and Anita Zaro (Timișoara, Romania/Faculty of Physical Education and Sport) who had times of 20:30.6 and 20:41.9 to finish in 52nd and 68th place, respectively.
All eight student-athletes from the Eastern Michigan women's team finished 207th or better and had 326 points in the race with five runners scoring.
Other runners who scored on the women's side were Lucy Jones (Haverhill, England Normanhurst School) and Liv Hatch (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) as the Eagles in total had scores of 7, 51, 66, 98, and 104.
In addition, seven of the eight runners for Eastern Michigan set a new personal best in the 6k distance in the women's race.
Coming in 12th place as a team, the Eastern Michigan men also ran eight student-athletes in the 8k race.
Runners who scored in the race were Sam Peterson (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix), Ronan Codyre (Auckland, New Zealand/Macleans College), Ty Dailey (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney), Kian Wiles (Hull, England /St. Mary's College) and Isaac Garcia (Greely, Colo./South County). The athletes placed 33, 48, 90, 100, and 125.
Once again, Peterson led the men's team with a personal-best time of 23:32.6 in the 8k to come in 33rd place in a fast-paced race that saw 11 runners break 23 minutes.
Like the women's race, the Eagles had a total of three athletes finish in the top 100. Along with Peterson, runners that accomplished the feat in this race were Codrye (50th) and Dailey (93rd), who clocked times of 23:42.6 and 24:06.7, which are both 8k personal-best.
For the entire day, the Eagles set a total of 16 personal bests in their respective races.

The rest of the Eastern Michigan women's team was at the Falcon Invite. There, the Eagles came in 10th place with 261 points.
Cora Henderson (Courtice, Ontario/Courtice Secondary) led the way for Eastern Michigan, finishing with a time of 23:17.0 in her collegiate 6k debut. Three other athletes for Eastern broke 24 minutes in the race, including Sophie Emin (Easton, Pa./Easton Area/Rutgers), Laisette Rachal and Frankie Moore (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) who finished in 23:28.3, 23:32.0 and 23:42.5, respectively.
All these student-athletes scored in the race as well as Alynna Wilson (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) to finish with scores of 42, 45, 48, 51, and 75.
The Eastern men had one harrier compete in the 8k at the Falcon Invite in freshman Nicolas Kline (Grand Rapids, Mich./Kenowa HIlls), who placed 73rd in 28:26.0.
