Cross Country Sets Out for NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships

The women’s race begins at 11 a.m., followed by the men at 12 p.m.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University cross country programs travel to Evansville, Ind., to compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships, Friday, Nov. 14.

The women's 6k will start at 11 a.m. ET, followed by the men's 10k at 12 p.m. ET.  The meet is hosted by the University of Evansville and will be held at Angel Mounds Course.  

There will be 35 schools from four states (Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin), representing nine different conferences at the meet on Friday.

Eagles Traveling
For the women's team, Liv Hatch (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso), Lucy Jones (Haverhill, England/Normanhurst School), Frankie Moore (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills), Erika Van Loton (Garden City, Mich./Huron Valley Lutheran), and Cara Weber (Union, Ky./Larry A. Ryle), will be competing.

The men's team will send Ronan Codyre (Auckland, New Zealand/Macleans College), Ty Dailey (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney)Isaac Garcia (Greely, Colo./South County), Jimmy Geller (London, England/Davenant Foundation School), Sam Peterson (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix), Carson Vanderschaaf (Marquette, Mich./Marquette Senior), and Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College), to the meet.

Last Time at the Great Lakes Regionals
The women placed 10th out of 32 teams at last year's regional meet, and were led by Paige Marchant, who ran to a 15th-place finish in 19:59.2. Marchant's time earned all-region accolades and marked the best result by an EMU woman at a regional meet since 2019, when Natalie Cizmas finished 10th in 20:33.3. Returners who scored at last year's meet were Hatch, with a time of 21:10.8, and Jones, who finished in 21:17.9.

The men's team finished 14th, with Peterson leading the way for the Eagles with a personal best 10k of 30:50.4. The other athletes who scored were all also returners who ran personal bests. The runners were Dailey, Codyre, Garcia, and Wiles, who ran times of 31:18.4, 31:21.8, 31:24.1 and 31:26.4, respectively.  

Last Time Out
Eastern last competed in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championships, where the men finished in sixth place with 119 points, and the women finished in 10th with 296 points. Wiles led the men with a top 10 finish, running the 8k in 24:33.2, earning second team all-conference honors. He was followed by Codyre and Garcia, who both saw top 20 finishes, with times of 24:52.4, and 24:58.4, respectively. The women were led by Hatch, who finished the 6k with a time of 21:53.4, followed by Jones, who finished with a time of 22:18.7.
