TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's cross country teams competed Friday, Oct. 16, at the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind. — the same course set to host the 2026 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, Nov. 21.
The women's squad finished ninth in the Women's White 6k with 252 points, while the men finished 35th in the Men's Blue 8k with 977 points, and two men raced in the Men's White 8k. Five Eastern Michigan women set career personal bests on the championship course.
Women's White 6k
The women finished ninth in the White 6k field with 252 points — a performance anchored by five career personal bests. Mercy Chepkemoi (Molo, Kenya/Kaplelach Secondary School) led the Eagles, placing 18th overall with a time of 21:21.4, a personal best. Christiana Coleman (Pompano Beach, Fla./Dillard/Florida) was the second scorer, finishing 34th in 21:37.8 for 24 team points. Mara Longenecker (Freeland, Mich./Freeland/Michigan) placed 87th in 22:10.7 as the third scorer with 59 team points. Sophie Emin (Easton, Pa./Easton Area/Rutgers) finished 92nd in 22:11.8 — a career personal best — for 63 team points, and Kaiya Fujioka (Whitby, Ontario/Brooklin) closed out the scoring five with a career-best 22:27.6 finish. Frankie Moore (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) ran a personal best of 22:40.8, and Erika Van Loton (Garden City, Mich./Huron Valley Lutheran) ran a time of 22:41.1, also a career personal best.
Men's Blue 8k
Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College) led the Eastern Michigan men in the Blue 8k, finishing 100th overall in 24:19.1. Sam Peterson (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix) was the Eagles' second scorer, running a time of 24:21.7 for 111 points. Ronan Codyre (Auckland, New Zealand/Macleans College) contributed as the third scorer, finishing in 25:01.8 for 236 points. Mohammed Mohammed (Cary, N.C./Green Level) ran a time of 25:08.3 as the fourth scorer with 252 points, while Blake Rodgers (Belpre, Ohio/Belpre/Wright State) rounded out the scoring five with a 25:37.8 finish.
In the Men's White 8k, Carson McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes) placed 109th in 26:01.9 and Carson Vanderschaaf (Marquette, Mich./Marquette Senior) finished 114th in 26:06.9.
