Baumann Scores as Eastern Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision at Northern Illinois

Eagles return to the pitch at BGSU Thursday, Oct. 24
DeKALB, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) – Redshirt sophomore Sophia Baumann's first-half goal helped the Eastern Michigan University soccer team gain a lead through halftime before the Eagles ultimately fell, 2-1, at Northern Illinois University, Sunday, Oct. 18 at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
How It Happened
Eastern scored the match's first goal as junior Mary Grimes (Commerce Township, Mich./Walled Lake Central) threw the ball into junior Hannah Thompson (Schoolcraft, Mich./Schoolcraft), who fired a deep strike off the crossbar that was tapped home by Baumann.
NIU responded out of the halftime break, scoring in the 48th and 57th minutes, respectively.
NIU out-shot EMU by a 7-2 margin while each team had three corner kicks.

» Eastern moved to 5-6-4 (1-3-4 MAC) on the year while Northern Illinois moved to 8-4-4 (2-3-3 MAC) for the season.
» Sophomore Sarah Van Euwen (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) and redshirt sophomore Scarlett Thomas (Sterling Heights, Mich./Utica Academy/Missouri) each played 90 minutes, marking Van Euwen's 13th full game of the season and Thomas' 10th. Senior Sam Lenaghan (Toronto, Ontario/Havergal College) also played the full 90 minutes for the first time this season.
» Baumann netted her second goal of the season, her first of the season came against Central Michigan, Sept. 19.
» Thompson recorded her third career assist and first since Oct. 27, 2022 against Miami University.
