MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team prepares to take on Big Ten member, the University of Minnesota, in a dual meet, Saturday, Jan. 13 in Minneapolis, Minn. The contest is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. CT (5 p.m. ET) and can be viewed on the B1G+ network with a paid subscription.

GYMNAST OF THE WEEK: EMU senior gymnast Raisa Boris earned both MAC Gymnast of the Week and Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors in the opening week of the 2024 season.
The senior, who holds a cumulative GPA of a perfect 4.00, has been recognized by the leagues office twice in one week after a stellar performance at the dual meet versus Western Michigan, Jan. 7. Boris finished the meet in the top-spot among all all-around gymnast with a career-high score of 39.425. She previously recorded a 39.350 at Bowling Green State University, one year ago, March 12. Additionally, the Minnesota native earned a career-high 9.875 on vault topping her previous personal-best of 9.825 at Northern Illinois, Feb. 17.
KEY EAGLE: Awarded after every contest, the Eastern Michigan gymnastics coaches choose one gymnast to anoint as that meet's Key Eagle. Ahead of the regular season, freshman Abby Brushwood was honored with the first "Key Eagle" title following the exhibition at the University of Michigan, Dec. 3. After her stellar performance at WMU, Jan. 7, Raisa Boris earned the title for the first time this season.
EAGLES IN KALAMAZOO: EMU opened up its 2024 season at Western Michigan, Jan. 7, where the Eagles finished with a 193.575 team score behind the Broncos' 194.300.
Raisa Boris was named the top all-around gymnast in the meet with an overall score of 39.425. Kyrie Lowe led the bars event, scoring a 9.850 for first place overall on uneven bars. Boris recorded a 9.875 on the vault apparatus for the top spot among Eagles and tied with one other Bronco for the overall top spot in the event. The Eagles grabbed their highest event score on floor, a 48.500, where Boris recorded an impressive 9.900 in her routine, tying once more for the event highest. EMU finished its season opener on beam with a 48.350 event score. Ella Chemotti earned the meet's highest score as the junior posted a 9.925 for first place in the event.
CAREER-HIGH RAI: Raisa Boris' all-around score of 39.425 at WMU, Jan. 7, marked a career-high for the senior. She previously recorded a 39.350 at Bowling Green State University, one year ago, March 12. Additionally, the Minnesota native earned a career-high 9.875 on vault, topping her previous personal best of 9.825 at Northern Illinois, Feb. 17.
ROOKIES, NO-MORE: Four rookies debuted in the dual against Western Michigan, Jan. 7. Genae Daniel recorded a score of 9.8250 on vault, tied for fourth place in the event. Jacquelyn Patterson and Gwendelyn Cantu appeared on the vault for the first time in their career, with Patterson earning a 9.575 and Cantu a 9.550. Additionally, Patterson competed in the balance beam event with a career-opening score of 9.150. Abby Brushwood, the owner of the first "Key Eagle" of the 2024 season, competed in both the vault and the floor events, recording a 9.775 on the vault apparatus and a 9.350 on floor.
FIRST-PLACE KYRIE: Sophomore Kyrie Lowe took the top-spot in uneven bars at WMU, Jan. 7, with a score of 9.850, good for a career-high. Additionally, the Lake Worth, Fla., native topped her previous personal-best of 9.650 on floor, which she recorded twice in the 2023 season, with a new best score of 9.750.
STELLAR ELLA: Ella Chemotti placed first on the balance beam at Western Michigan, Jan. 7, with a score of 9.925, marking the 11th time the junior has earned a 9.900 score or above.
FIRST TIME AT MINNESOTA: Saturday's dual meet with Minnesota will mark the first between the two schools under head coach Katie Minasola's guidance. After this Saturday's contest, only the University of Nebraska remains as the only Big Ten member EMU has yet to face in its program history.
AGAINST THE BIG TEN: Saturday's contest marks the 29th time EMU will face a Big Ten member in its respective program history, going 7-20-1 in said contests. The Eagles hold four wins over Rutgers University, two against the University of Maryland, and one at Michigan State University.
ON THE HORIZON: EMU will return home in time for its season home-opener against Mid-American Conference foe, Central Michigan University, Friday, Jan. 19. The contest, which will count towards conference competition, is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center.
