Women's Golf Concludes Play At MAC Championships

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team wrapped up play at the 2023 Mid-American Conference Championships, hosted by Western Michigan at Kalamazoo Country Club Sunday, April 23. As a team, the Eagles finished in 10th place, scoring a final round 314 to finish with a cumulative score of 954 (312-328-314).
No. 42 Kent State captured its 24th consecutive league title, finishing with an 875 (291-305-279). Northern Illinois was the runner up with a 908, followed by Central Michigan (912), and Akron (923). Toledo (930), WMU (949), Ball State (949), Ohio (950), Bowling Green (977), and EMU rounded out the MAC standings.
Leon Takagi won individual honors for Kent State, totaling a one under par 215 (73-73-69) for the weekend.
How It Happened
Eastern Michigan was led by Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland), who finished 14th with a 229 (73-81-75) over the course of the weekend. Watson's 73 on Friday was the best score posted by an EMU player all weekend.
Eastern Michigan also saw quality scores throughout the weekend by sophomore Kyleigh Dull (Fremont, Ohio-Lakota) posting a 235 (75-80-80) in a tie for 24th, while senior Natai Apichonlati (Bangkok, Thailand-The Regent's International School) took 29th after posting a 237 (76-79-82).
Historical Notes
Playing a mostly underclassmen lineup, the Eagles finished the year with the 10th-lowest four-player team scoring average in program history at 308.4. Eastern Michigan had four top-five finishes this season, including a runner-up showing at the Shirley Spork Invitational, Oct. 3-4, 2022. The Eagles played their best golf down the stretch, coming in third place at the Jan Weaver Invitational, April 3-4, 2023, and the Lady Jaguar Invitational, April 15-16, 2023.
