CARMEL, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team plays its final regular season tournament of the year this weekend at the IUPUI Lady Jaguar Invitational. Competition in the two-round tournament will begin on Saturday, April 15, with 18 holes of play, followed by the final round of play on Sunday, April 16.
The Plum Creek Golf Club course plays to a par-72 and a length of 6,102 yards.
The Eagles are joined in the field of 10 teams by Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, Green Bay, IUPUI, Marian, Northern Kentucky, Purdue Fort Wayne, Western Illinois, and Western Michigan.
EMU will be looking to defend its 2022 championship at the event. Last year, EMU carded a four-player score of 585 (292-293) to top its next closest competitor by 16 strokes, IUPUI (301-300=600). The 36-hole mark of 585 tied the school record previously set at the Low Country Invitational, March 2-3, 2020.
The team championship was the third of the 2021-21 campaign for the Eagles after winning the Golden Grizzly Invitational, Sept. 26-27, 2021, and the Shirley Spork Invitational, Oct. 4-5, 2021. It marked the first time since 2019-20 and just the fifth time (2006-07, 2007-08, 2011-12, 2019-20, and 2021-22) that the squad has won at least three events during a single season. Overall, the victory marked the 28th title in school history and the sixth under Head Coach Stephanie Jennings.
Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) also notched her first collegiate medalist honor with a six-under 138 (69-69). Her total ranked as the lowest 36-hole tally in EMU history, shattering the mark previously of 141 (72-69) set by Emily Podzielinski at the Cardinal Classic, Sept. 19-20, 2009.
Jennings will use the lineup of Watson, sophomore Kyleigh Dull (Fremont, Ohio-Lakota), senior Natai Apichonlati (Bangkok, Thailand-The Regent's International School), sophomore Alyssa DiMarcantonio (Maple, Ontario-Tommy Douglas Secondary School), and senior Adeline Lau (Sa Rawak, Malaysia-SMK Bintulu-Michigan Dearborn). All five players participated in the event last year.
