MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University gymnastics will head north to Mount Pleasant, Mich., Friday, Feb. 3, to take on the Central Michigan University Chippewas in its second conference competition of the season. Meet time is slated for 7 p.m.

MATCH-UP IN MORGANTOWN: Eastern Michigan finished fourth overall at the West Virginia University Quad Sunday, Jan. 29. The Eagles earned a season-best 194.050, but placed fourth behind West Virginia (196.375), Towson University (196.025) and Iowa State University (195.825). Ella Chemotti highlighted the afternoon for EMU, posting a team-best 9.900 on beam for first place overall.
STACK EM: The Eagles have improved on each of their previous team scores at each meet so far this season. In the team's season opener at Arizona State Jan.13, EMU recorded a 192.150 as a team.The Green and White went on to post a 193.575 at Iowa State, Jan. 20, then added a 193.975 two days later against Ball State, Jan. 22. Eastern Michigan's most recent team score of 194.050 at West Virginia marks a season best for the program.
SEASON'S BEST: Four Eastern Michigan gymnasts posted six season highs at the West Virginia Quad, Jan. 29. Hadyn Crossen and Anna Grace McCullough opened up the afternoon with season bests of 9.800 and 9.725 respectively on floor. Mickayla Stuckey also added a season-high 9.700 in the same event for the Eagles. On beam, Crossen and Stuckey recorded season bests of 9.850 and 9.800 on the apparatus while Molly Parris scored a 9.700 for another 2023 high. Parris also matched her season high on vault with a team-best 9.725.
FOUR FOR FOUR: Ella Chemotti has posted first place finishes on beam in all four of Eastern Michigan's meets so far this season. At the Arizona State Triangular, Jan. 13, the sophomore took the top spot on the apparatus with a 9.850 in front of ASU standouts Gracie Reeves and Emily White, who tied for second at 9.825. The following week at the Iowa State Triangular, Jan. 20, Chemotti recorded a season high 9.925 beam score to finish first once again. Against Ball State Jan. 22, Chemotti's 9.825 performance on beam earned her a tie for first overall in the event. Her most recent effort at the West Virginia Quad, Jan. 29, earned Chemotti another top score of 9.900 on beam, her second score of 9.900 or better this season and the sixth in her career.
BEAM QUEEN: Ella Chemotti's average beam score of 9.875, and high of 9.925, stand alone atop the conference's beam rankings for the second straight week. The sophomore's scores are good for 30th in the nation. Last season, Chemotti spent three weeks leading the conference on the apparatus and concluded the team's 2022 campaign there with an NQS of 9.875.
IN THE TOP 10: Two more Eagles ranked inside the conference's top 10 event performers after the fourth week of competition. Raisa Boris climbed to eighth overall on bars from the 10th place position last week with an average score of 9.819. The junior's average all-around score of 38.869 remains ranked sixth for the second straight week. Hadyn Crossen owns the 10th spot on beam as well with an average score of 9.744 on the apparatus.
EAGLES ON BEAM: In the fourth week of the 2023 season, Eastern Michigan's 48.613 average beam score ranks fourth in the conference. EMU earned its top beam score of the year, 49.000, at its most recent meet, the West Virginia Quad, Jan. 29. The Eagles ranked in the top four spots in the MAC on beam for nine weeks during the 2022 season.
YPSILANTI 49ERS: Eastern Michigan has recorded two event scores of 49.000 or better so far this season. The Eagles tallied its highest event score of the 2023 campaign, a 49.175 on bars, at home against Ball State, Jan. 22. The score ties with Central Michigan as the top team performance on bars in the MAC through four weeks of competition. The mark is also tied for 10th all-time in the event's program history.
The Green and White also posted a season best 49.000 on beam at the West Virginia Quad, Jan. 29. Ella Chemotti, Hadyn Crossen and Mickayla Stuckey all tallied scores of 9.800 to boost EMU's event score. Raisa Boris and Molly Parris added a 9.750 and a 9.700 respectively to round out the Eagles beam total.
KEY EAGLE: Awarded after every contest, the Eastern Michigan gymnastics coaching staff choose one gymnast to anoint as that meet's Key Eagle. Mickayla Stuckey earned this week's honor for her performance at the West Virginia Quad where she posted season bests on beam, 9.800, and floor, 9.700.
FAMILIAR FACE: Mayleigh Vanderbeek is no stranger to Mount Pleasant, Mich. A transfer student-athlete, Vanderbeek competed for Central Michigan for the first two years of her collegiate career. The senior accomplished her career best on beam as a Chippewa when she recorded a 9.850 against Bowling Green, Feb. 21, 2020.
LAST TIME VS. CENTRAL: The Eagles' last battle against the Chippewas ended in a 193.535-192.925 victory for EMU inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center, Jan. 14, 2022. Former Eagle Kara Roberts took the sole first place finish of the meet with a 9.800 on vault. Raisa Boris and Hadyn Crossen both posted 9.825s on bars, then a career best mark for Crossen. Ella Chemotti and Molly Parris also scored 9.825, on beam and floor respectively, for former personal bests.
CHIP DIP: Central Michigan leads the series 25-7 since 2003 against the Eagles. Eastern holds a 1-12 record when competing in Mount Pleasant, Mich. Prior to the Eagles' victory last season, the Chippewas defeated EMU at four consecutive meets between 2018 and 2021. Eastern Michigan had bested CMU in four straight meets from 2015 to 2017 before Central's most recent streak.
ON THE HORIZON: Eastern Michigan reaches the halfway point of a five meet road trip next week when the Eagles take on No. 10 Kentucky Friday, Feb.10, in Lexington, Ky. Meet time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
