Eagle Duo Finish Strong at Chippewa Invitational

Kim (29th), Tapp (37th) competed as individuals in the event

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Two members of the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team competed as individuals at the Chippewa Invitational with both finishing in the top-40 of the event played at the Birmingham Country Club in Birmingham, Mich., Oct. 15-16. Freshmen Riley Kim (Aldie, Va./Lightridge) and Gabriella Tapp (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) placed 29th and 37th, respectively, in the tournament hosted by Central Michigan University.
 
Playing in her fifth event of the fall, Kim carded a 159 (78-81) to finish 29th overall in the standings while Tapp, in her fourth event of 2023, finished 37th at 163 (87-76).
 
Youngstown State University won the team title with two-day total of 602 (296-306), beating out Oakland University for the top spot by four strokes after the Golden Grizzlies finished with a 606 (307-299). The Eagles did not field a team in the event as the remaining players prepared to compete in the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Invitational, Oct. 27-29.
 
How It Happened
Kim opened the tournament with a 78 before finishing with an 81 on the second day. She finished in the top 30 for the fourth time this season as well. Tapp opened the event with an 87 before lowering her score by 11 strokes on the second day to climb to 37th overall, easily her best finish after placing tied for 50th at the season-opening A-Ga-Ming Invitational, Sept. 3-4, in Kewadin, Mich. Tapp's second-round 76 stands as her second-best round for the Eagles after firing a 75 in the second round of the A-Ga-Ming Invitational.

EMU will compete at the prestigious White Sands Bahamas NCAA Invitational in Nassau, Bahamas, Oct. 27-29. For the fourth year, the annual golf tournament will be played at the Ocean Club Golf Course on Atlantis Paradise Island. The tournament was previously played at this golf course in 2019, 2021 and 2022. The women's teams entered are UNC-Charlotte, Delaware, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Grand Canyon, Kansas State, North Florida, Santa Clara, Tampa, Troy, and Tulane.
