WHAT A WEEKEND: The Eagles competed at two meets this past weekend, the first on Friday, Jan. 20, at the Iowa State Triangular and the second in the team's home opener against Ball State, Jan. 22. In the first meet, EMU finished third with a 193.575 team score, just half a point shy of leader Iowa State, 194.075, and a tenth of a point behind second place finisher UC Davis, 193.675. The second meet of the weekend saw Eastern drop its first conference matchup of the year to the visiting Cardinals, 195.650-193.975.
STRONG SUIT: Five Eagles posted scores of 9.800 or better on bars to earn the team an impressive meet-best 49.175 bars score against Ball State Jan. 22, a mark which is tied for 10th all-time in the event's program history. The last time the Green and White scored a 49.175 on bars was, Feb. 24, 2017, against Ball State and again at Illinois, Jan. 14, 2017.
CHANGE YOUR BEST: Eastern's home opener against Ball State Sunday saw four Eagles post new career highs on five events. On bars, Hadyn Crossen scored a 9.875 while Jordan Jankowski and Kyrie Lowe both notched 9.800s, all for new personal bests. Raisa Boris added a new high in all-around, 39.275, and vault, 9.750. In her third collegiate meet, Cassie Bergin set a personal best of 9.675 on beam. Two Eagles also matched previous highs in Boris on bars, 9.875, and floor, 9.850, and in Alana Fisher's 9.725 on vault.
THREE FOR THREE: Ella Chemotti has posted first place finishes on beam in all three of Eastern Michigan's meets so far this season. At the Arizona State Triangular, Jan. 13, the sophomore took the top spot on the apparatus with a 9.850 in front of ASU standouts Gracie Reeves and Emily White, who tied for second at 9.825. The following week at the Iowa State Triangular, Jan. 20, Chemotti recorded a season high 9.925 beam score to top the event once again for the Eagles. Against Ball State Jan. 22, Chemotti's 9.825 performance on beam earned her a tie for first in the event with the Cardinals' Taylor Waldo.
'RAI'SING THE BAR: Raisa Boris set a new career high on vault twice last weekend. Boris bested her previous record of 9.675 with a 9.700 vault performance at Iowa State Jan. 20. The junior competed in all-around for the Eagles where she earned a 9.700 or higher on all four events for a 38.975 total score.
At EMU's home opener Jan. 22, Boris set another career high on vault, 9.750, and all-around, 39.275, for a team-best finish in both events. The junior also matched her personal bests on floor, 9.850, and bars, 9.875. Boris' bars score was good for a first place tie.

Crossen scored at 9.775 on the apparatus at the Iowa State Triangular, Jan. 20, to take the top spot overall. The following meet, the senior set a career-high 9.875 on bars against Ball State, Jan. 22, to land in a three way tie for first with teammate Raisa Boris and the Cardinals' Victoria Henry. Crossen also recorded a team high 9.775 on floor at Iowa State and scored an impressive 9.825 on beam.

EMU earned its top beam score of the year, 48.825, at the Iowa State Triangular, Jan. 20. Last season, the Eagles ranked in the top three spots in the MAC on beam for the first seven weeks of the 2022 slate.

KEY EAGLES: Awarded after every contest, the Eastern gymnastics coaches choose one gymnast to anoint as that meet's Key Eagle. Alana Fisher earned the team's title by scoring a 9.700 on vault at the Iowa State Triangular, Jan. 20, in just her fourth collegiate appearance and first since last season's Kent State Triangular, March 22. Jordan Jankowski grabbed the honor after the Eagles' home opener against Ball State, Jan. 22, as she stepped into the event's lineup last minute and set a career best 9.800 on bars.
FAMILIAR FOES: A transfer from the University of Pittsburgh, Trinity Macy is no stranger to both West Viriginia and East Atlantic Gymnastics League competition. In her two years as a Panther, Macy has seen action against West Virginia and Towson 13 times. Two years ago, the junior recorded her career best of 9.850 on bars in a dual meet against the Mountaineers, March 12, 2021.
MADE IN THE HEARTLAND: Eastern Michigan's Hadyn Crossen and Towson's Paige Casper hail from the same hometown of Carmel, Ind. Prior to their collegiate careers, Crossen and Casper both competed at Jaycie Phelps Athletic Center under coaches Jaycie Phelps and Dave Marus. Both Crossen and Casper have grown to become key parts of their respective teams lineups, Crossen in all four events and Casper on floor, since their beginnings in Carmel.
