Multiple gymnasts post career bests in loss

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team dropped its first home meet against Ball State University, 195.650-193.975, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center Sunday afternoon, Jan. 22.

Despite the loss, the Eagles (0-5, 0-1 MAC) continued to improve as the team recorded a final score of 193.975, the highest of the 2023 campaign thus far.

How It Happened 
Eastern's first rotation took the team to the vault where the squad earned a 47.950 team score. Raisa Boris (Brooklyn Park, Minn.-Park Center) landed in the top spot among Eagles on the apparatus with a new career high 9.750 for fifth place. 

The Eagles then moved onto bars and recorded a 49.175 score. Boris and Hadyn Crossen (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel) both shared a 9.875 score on bars to top the squad and tie for first overall. Three Eagles earned personal career highs on the event in Crossen, Jordan Jankowski (Frisco, Texas-Independence) and Kyrie Lowe (Lake Worth, Fla.-Park Vista). Jankowski and Lowe both tallied new personal bests with dual 9.800s on bars.  

EMU's 49.175 bar score is tied for 10th all-time in program history. The last time the Green and White scored a 49.175 or better was on two occasions, Feb. 24, 2017, against Ball State and at the University of Illinois, Jan. 14, 2017.

Eastern Michigan's third rotation took the team to beam where EMU registered a 48.625 score as Ella Chemotti (Canton, Mich.-Canton) led the Eagles with a 9.825 score. Cassie Bergin (Islip Terrace, N.Y.-East Islip) also earned a career high with a 9.675.

The Green and White finished on the floor with a team score of 48.225. Boris posted a team high of 9.850 on floor for second place overall, tying her career high in the event for the fifth time. 

Across all four events, Boris posted a new personal best of 39.275 in all around to finish second behind Ball State's Victoria Henry.
