Przybylo stops a season-best seven shots on the day

BRIGHTON, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University soccer team fell at home, 2-0, to visiting Syracuse University Thursday afternoon at Sloan Field in Brighton, Mich. Rebecca Przybylo (Canton, Mich.-Plymouth) recorded a season-high seven saves in goal for the Eagles (1-2-1, 0-0-0 MAC), but it was not enough as the Orange (3-1-0, 0-0-0 ACC) tallied twice in the second half of play to grab the victory.

How It Happened
The match, which saw both sides equally share possession (50%-50%) throughout, was a back-and-forth affair in the first half with both teams seeking to find a way into the net. SU outshot Eastern, 9-6, in the first half with the best chance of the stanza coming with under five minutes remaining as Erin Flurey broke through the EMU defense and fired a low shot that Przybylo smothered to keep the match scoreless.

In the second half, both teams again looked to find a way to dictate play with the Orange breaking through in the 51'. Cheslea Domond collected a pass from Gianna Savella and powered a shot low into the side netting from 10 yards out to make it 1-0. Twenty minutes later, Domond finished her brace as she dribbled into the box and snuck a low shot into the corner to make it the final 2-0 margin.

Game Notes
» Eastern moves to 1-2-1 on the year and has fallen in back-to-back matches after opening the year 1-0-1.
» The Eagles had five total shots on the day with five different players each recording one, including Sophia D'Ambra (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South), Maddie O'Farrell (Haslett, Mich.-Lansing Catholic), Vittoria Greco (Brooklin, Ontario-Brooklin), Jamie Lefebvre (London, Ontario-A.B. Lucas Secondary), and, Cailyn Smith (Pinckney, Mich.-Brighton).
» Smith, who graduated from Brighton High School last year, recorded her first collegiate shot and did so on her high school's home field.

Historical Notes
» Eastern is now 246-225-61 all-time, needing just four more wins to reach the 250-win milestone.
» Syracuse has won both meetings in the series after taking a 2-1 decision last year in Syracuse, N.Y.
» The Eagles are now 1-5-1 against current members of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
» The last time Eastern posted a result against a current ACC member came in a 0-0 draw at Pittsburgh on Aug. 19, 2011, the Panthers' last year in the Big East Conference before joining the ACC. The lone win against a current ACC foe was also against Pitt in a 2-1 win at Bowling Green on Aug. 27, 2004.
» The shutout marked the first time the Eagles have not scored in a game this season, halting its seven-match streak dating back to last year in which they had scored at least one time per contest.

NEXT UP
The Eagles return to action Sunday at 1 p.m. when they face a visit from the Big Green of Dartmouth College. The site of the match is tentatively slated for the Legacy Center Sports Complex in Brighton, Mich., but power outages in that area forced today's match with Syracuse to another location. The exact location of the match will be announced on EMUEagles.com as well as the team's social media platforms (see below) as soon as details become available.
