GRANVILLE, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)
– The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving program earned second place, 1,924 points, in the Denison Invitational this weekend, Saturday, Dec. 4. EMU tallied three wins and eight top-five finishes in seven events on the final day of the invitational.

"It was great to be back at a mid-season invitational again," Head Swimming Coach Derek Perkins said. "The team was outstanding all weekend and got better each day of the meet. Our divers were dominant on the boards and are looking very good for where they are in their training cycle. On the swimming end, we tallied 20 personal records throughout the course of the meet. Lucie Fioux broke a 15-year-old freshman record set by EMU great Maddie Pilchard in the 200 free. Her time also put her on the all-time top-10 list. Kiersten Russell was on fire all week saving her best race for last, winning the 200 back. Her time put her on the all-time top-10 list as well. Lainie Bell was very good this week. Her 200 backstroke time also put her in the all-time top-10. Bell also placed second in the 50 and 100 back. "

After winning the 1-meter dive on Friday, senior Bethany Berger (Batavia, Ohio-Glen Este) took the 3-meter dive with a final score of 513.55. The Eagles would sweep the top four spots with freshmen Camryn Hughes (London, Ontario-Sir Frederick Banting Secondary) taking second place (471.45), Rebekah Knapp (Mesa, Ariz.-Skyline) coming in third (437.50), and Anabelle Rosen-Hurley (Adrian, Mich.-Adrian) rounding out the top-four spots (418.30).

In the 1,650-yard free finals, sophomore Sav Mouat (Tecumseh, Ontario-All Saints) took first with a time of 16:46.67.

Freshman Kiersten Russell (Clinton, Mich.-Saline) and sophomore Lainie Bell (Atlanta, Ga.-Druid Hills (Northern Arizona)) took one and two in the 200-yard back finals. Russell took first with a 2:00.25 mark, while Bell finished with a time of 2:00.64.

Senior Riley Hofmann (Ada, Mich-Forest Hills Central) notched a second-place finish in the 200-yard fly finals with a mark of 2:01.33. Fellow senior Ali Staver (Bettendorf, Iowa-Pleasant Valley) claimed fourth in the same event (2:03.20).

"Our captains were incredibly valuable this week as we were able to plug in Riley and Ali in a variety of different events," Perkins said. "They were outstanding! Sav Mouat was great for us, winning the mile [1,650 free]. Many of our girls stepped up resulting in a very good mid-season meet. Excited to learn from the meet and get back to work! Go Eagles!"
