ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving program defeated Ball State, 167-133, Saturday night, Jan. 22, inside the Canham Natatorium.
"Great effort from everyone tonight," Head Swimming Coach Derek Perkins said. "Our seniors, Ali [Staver] and Riley [Hofmann], were outstanding. Winning all three of their events and producing some of their fastest in-season times ever. It was great to watch them continue to improve…Hannah White had some key swims in the butterfly. Katie [Shoen] went a lifetime best in the 50 free. And to finish the meet with sweeping the IM and winning the relay at the end was really special. The girls were excited to race. Looking forward to our meet versus Miami!"
The Eagles finished with nine first-place finishes, including a score of 315.68 in the 1-meter dive from senior Bethany Berger (Batavia, Ohio-Glen Este). Berger's mark in the 1-meter is good for third in program history. Former Eagle Danielle Hulvey holds the program record with a score of 349.13 in the 1-meter.
Berger also finished first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 297.00.
Freshman Katie Shoen (Owego, N.Y.-Owego Free Academy) finished with a personal-best time of 23.90 in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing second in the event. That time is the second-best on the team in the 50-yard freestyle this season.

Eastern will travel to Oxford, Ohio to battle Miami Friday, Jan. 28, in a dual meet. The first event is set for 11 a.m. inside the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.
