Gabia Gelumbickas Wins Junior National Title

The incoming freshman won the 50m backstroke at the Speedo Junior National Championships
IRVINE, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University swim and dive incoming student-athlete Gabia Gelumbickas earned Junior National Champion of the 50m backstroke at the Speedo Junior National Championships in Irvine, Calif., August 3-7.
Gelumbickas (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton Community) becomes EMU swim and dive's first Junior National Champion along with being named the fifth-fastest Junior Swimmer this season.
Scoring 33 individual points throughout this year's championships, Gelumbickas earned the national title in the 50m backstroke in 28.48, followed by another A-Final appearance in the 100m backstroke, where she finished sixth in 1:02.21. In addition to both A-Final times being personal bests, she also swam a personal best in the 50m freestyle prelims, with a time of 25.91.
Gelumbickas joins the program for the 2026-27 season after a successful high school career. She attended Boca Raton Community High School, where she was runner-up for a state title, awarded Most Valuable Performer two years in a row, and undefeated in her most recent championship season.
The Speedo Junior National Championships is an annual competition for athletes 18 years old or younger, organized by USA Swimming. The full list of results from this year's competition can be accessed here.
