BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University cross country teams put on an impressive display at the season-opening Falcon Invitational, Saturday, Nov. 7, in Bowling Green, Ohio. Both squads saw harriers earn top-20 finishes as the tilt prepares them for the upcoming Mid-American Conference Championship race.

The men's team edged Miami by eight points, garnering 35 total points to capture first place out of the nine teams competing in the 8K race. The Green and White boasted six top-20 finishes at the event, which was accompanied by a beautiful November afternoon. Redshirt freshman Toby Gualter (Tawa, New Zealand-Tawa College) grabbed the second-place spot and lead the Eagles with a blistering time of 24:59.5, while former All-MAC first team honoree, junior Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University) came in third with a mark of 25:00.8. Juniors Chris Devaney (New Plymouth, New Zealand-New Plymouth) (25:12.3) and Eddie Zuercher (Rocky River, Ohio-Rocky River) (25:15.6) also earned spots in the top-10, placing seventh and eighth, respectively.

Freshman Ethan Kincell (Fairmont, W.Va.-Fairmont Senior) proved his mettle in his first collegiate outing by rounding out the top-15 with a time of 25:49.4. Meanwhile, junior Noah Perrin (Akron, Ohio-Woodridge) took the 20th spot, registering a 26:09.3 mark on the afternoon.

On the women's side, sophomore Esme Davies (Lake District, England-Queen Elizabeth Grammar School) proved to be EMU's top harrier, registering a time of 22:36.4, good for 19th place in the 6K. Junior Olivia Chandler (Brighton, Mich.-Brighton) earned the 38th spot with a 23:24.0 mark, with fellow juniors Kaitlyn St. Bernard (Newport, Mich.-Jefferson) (24:13.5) and Lexi Seifert (Waterford, Pa.-Villa Maria Academy) (24:15.6) finishing 61st and 62nd, respectively.

"It was exciting to get out there and race in uniform after so many months and I thought that everyone competed hard," remarked head coach Sue Parks.  "We came away with some nice positives and also some things to work on.  We're ready to carry this momentum into the next two weeks and be as ready as we can when we come back to Bowling Green on November 21st."

Up next for Eastern Michigan – the MAC Championship. The contest will take place on Nov. 21, with the location yet to be determined. More information on that race will be announced in the coming days.

The Eagles have fared well at the conference title event with the men taking home the trophy four of the last five years, while the women have notched five-straight. For the women, a sixth-consecutive title victory would tie the women's MAC record.
