Dull was the 2018 and 2019 Ohio State Girls Division II State Champion
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University Head Women's Golf Coach Stephanie Jennings announced today, Nov. 23, that Kyleigh Dull (Fremont, Ohio-Lakota) will be joining the Eagles for the 2021-22 season.
"Our Eagle team is thrilled to welcome Kyleigh Dull as part of the 2021 signing class," said Jennings. "As a two-time Division II Ohio State Champion and winner in multiple junior golf championships, Kyleigh has demonstrated her desire to succeed in golf and push herself to the next level. In addition, her character, commitment, and compassion will blend very well with the culture we are establishing here at EMU."
Dull will go down as perhaps the greatest female student-athlete in Lakota High School history and her four top-five finishes, including two state titles, rank her among the best in Ohio prep history.
Losing certainly is not anything Dull has had to endure much during her high school career. In addition to beating most of the competition while playing on Lakota's boys team during the past four seasons and making her way through girls fields to four girls state tournaments, she's won or shared two of the last three Division II state girls titles.
As it is, Dull is one of just six girls to have won state twice. After finishing fourth as a freshman, she tied for the 2018 championship. In 2019, after shooting 70 on the first day to put herself within three shots of the lead, Dull followed up by matching the par-70 course record of 67 and ended up with a five-shot victory.
In 2020, Dull was attempting to become the first girl to ever win three individual OHSAA titles, but she finished just short. She finished in third place at Ohio State University's Gray course to wrap up her career for the Raiders.
The freshman-to-be was a four-time Sandusky Bay Conference River Division regular season and tournament champion and medalist from 2017-20 while playing as a memeber of the school's boys team. Dull was the 2020 boys medalist of the three divisions (River, Lake, Bay Divisions) of the SBC Tournament with 120 competitors. Additionally, she was the 2020 Northern Ohio PGA (NOPGA) Girls Junior Sectional Champion at Portage Country Club with a 142 (71-71), June 8-9.
For her efforts, Dull was selected First Team All-Ohio all four years, a Ohio high school girls record. She also collected First Team All-Northwest Ohio District honors from 2017-20. Dull was honored as Lakota's Boys MVP each season, and was the runner-up among 105 boys at the 2020 Bellevue Boys Invitational.
Dull long ago set out to break records set by her sister, Makayla, who won the 2013 Division II state championship while qualifying for four state tournaments. Makayla played at the University of Akron and is now the head men's and women's golf coach at Lake Erie University in Painesville, Ohio.
Her parents, Troy and Cathy Dull, have been there every step of the way, with Troy having a hand in much of their daughters' golf instruction.
