YPSILANTI, Michigan (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team (1-5-2) was dropped by the Loyola Chicago Ramblers (5-4-1), 1-0, in overtime Sept. 22 at Scicluna Field.
Redshirt junior Mabel Dunn (Oakville, Ontario–White Oaks Secondary) faced 21 shots and made 8 saves on the day. Her save count now sits at 49 on the season.
Redshirt senior Kristin Hullibarger (Brooklin, Ontario–Donald A. Wilson) produced a season-high three shots on goal. Meanwhile senior Aubrey Martin (Toronto, Ontario-Father John Redmond) played her first full match this season.
30 minutes in, the Eagles saw a chance in the box when redshirt junior Sabrina McNeill's (Whitby, Ontario-Henry Street) shot deflected off the Loyola keeper to Maggie McCullough (London, Ontario-Oakridge Secondary). The senior managed to make contact, but headed the ball wide of the goal.
After the break, freshman Amanda Cripps (Bradford, Ontario-Trinity Catholic) fired off three shots from the top of the box while junior Kennady Kuhlman (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) added a shot of her own, but the Eagles couldn't break the tie before the end of regulation.
The deciding goal came at the end of the first overtime period in the 100th minute when Loyola's Simone Wark found teammate Lindsey Hardiman across the box.
EMU struggled in the first half as it faced seven corner kicks and ten shots. The Eagles fought back in the second half placing four shots on goal to test the Rambler's keeper. Loyola out-shot EMU 21-to-14 and had more shots on goal with nine to Eastern's seven.
The Eagles open up MAC play with a trip to Miami University on Friday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m.
