Eagles Fall to RedHawks in MAC Opener, 3-1

The Eagles broke a three-game scoring drought
OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team broke its scoring drought Friday night, Sept. 27, in their Mid-American Conference opener, but ultimately fell to Miami, 3-1, at Bobby Kramig Field.
Miami found the back of the net 10 minutes in to take an early lead, 1-0.
Junior Parys Kerr (Whitby, Ontario-Pickering) saw the best first-half chance for the Eagles in the 24th minute. After her first shot was deflected by the RedHawks' goalkeeper, she found the rebound but sent it wide of the goal.
Despite having a 13-to-6 shot advantage on Miami, the RedHawks carried their lead into the break.
After seeing chances from redshirt junior Sabrina McNeill (Whitby, Ontario-Henry Street) and freshman Amanda Cripps (Bradford, Ontario-Trinity Catholic) to start the second half, Miami was the first to score, doubling its lead in the 78th minute.
The Eagles broke through in the 80th minute. Redshirt junior Nicole Remedios (Ajax, Ontario-Archbishop Dennis O'Connor) started the sequence with a free kick, finding the head of senior Aubrey Martin (Toronto, Ontario-Father John Redmond). Martin's shot deflected off the Miami defender and was buried by junior Tessa Osborne (Mentor, Ohio-Lake Catholic) to bring the Green and White back within one.
The RedHawks curved one more shot in for a goal and took the win, 3-1.
Redshirt junior Mabel Dunn (Oakville, Ontario-White Oaks Secondary) recorded five saves in 90 minutes of play. Eastern finished with the 28-to-15 advantage in shots, as well as four-to-two advantage in corners.
The Eagles continue MAC play Sunday, Sept. 29, at Ball State University. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
