Sabrina McNeill reached 40 career points

MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team rallied, but ultimately fell to Ball State University, 3-2, in overtime Sept. 29 at Briner Sports Complex.

Redshirt junior Sabrina McNeill (Whitby, Ontario-Henry Street) surpassed the 40-career points mark, becoming the seventh player in Eastern Michigan soccer history to reach the milestone.

The Eagles got things started early, scoring the quickest goal so far in 2019 just six minutes in. Redshirt junior Nicole Remedios (Ajax, Ontario-Archbishop Dennis O'Connor) launched a free kick to sophomore Sarah Ash (South Lyon, Mich.-South Lyon), who in turn headed it to McNeill who sent it over the line to put the Eagles up, 1-0.

Ball State found the equalizer in similar fashion. Sending a free kick towards the goal, freshman Rebecca Przybylo (Canton, Mich.-Plymouth) was able to deflect the kick, but the Cardinals gained control of the deflection to score. BSU tacked on one more goal in the 39th minute to take a 2-1 lead into the half.

The Eagles showed their fight to start the second half. In the 50th minute, Remedios found Ash who headed it past the Cardinals' keeper not only to tie the match at two but to give Ash her first career shot and goal.

In overtime, the Cardinals capitalized on a free kick in the 97th minute to take the win, 3-2.

Przybylo tallied four saves in her first career start. Remedios recorded a career-high two assists, playing a part in each of the Eagles' goals on Sunday.

Eastern Michigan returns to Scicluna Field for a weekend series, hosting Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. The Huskies visit Scicluna Field Friday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m., while the Broncos come to Ypsilanti Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m.
