AURORA, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team will compete at the 2019 Mid-American Conference Championship Friday through Sunday, April 26-28, at Club Walden. Kent State University will host the three-day, 72-hole event for the nine MAC schools which sponsor men's golf – Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami, Northern Illinois, Ohio, and Toledo.

Having one of the best seasons in program history, the Eagles have posted the lowest four-player team scoring average at 289.0. The tally is 1.4 strokes ahead of the 2016-17 squad's record-setting mark of 290.4. Overall, Eastern Michigan has finished in the top-five at five different tournaments this season, including a first-place finish at the EKU Raising Canes Intercollegiate, Sept. 15-16.

Individually, senior Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) leads the MAC with a scoring average of 71.67 while sophomore Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) ranks second in the league with a mark of 71.85. Both tallies are on pace to surpass the Eastern Michigan season scoring standard set by Kyle Rodes during the 2016-17 season at 72.1 strokes per round. Both are looking to become the first Eagle to take home MAC Golfer of the Year honors since 2007.

The league's men's golf championship will be held at the 7,202-yard, par-72 Club Walden for the first time ever.

The Green and White will tee off at 8:30 a.m. Friday morning and will be paired with Kent State. Rounds three and four are set for Saturday and Sunday, respectively, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Fans can follow all the action via Golfstat.

The Eagles finished seventh at the 2018 MAC Championship, posting a three-day cumulative score of 1,245 (312-305-309-319).  The Golden Flashes came from behind to capture its third consecutive league title, finishing at 44-over 1,196 (293-306-301-296) at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind. Breault paced the Green and White with a 309 (75-82-76-76) to finish in 18th-place.

KSU has won three consecutive MAC Championships, and nine of the last 10.  Eastern Michigan (2007 & 2008) and Miami (2015) are the last two schools besides the Golden Flashes to have won a team title in the past 12 years.

Kent State is ranked No. 89 in Golfstat's national rankings followed by Eastern Michigan (109), Ball State (138), Miami (139), Northern Illinois (140), Bowling Green (163), Toledo (169), Akron (196), and Ohio (197).

Playing this weekend for EMU will be Breault, Celone, sophomore Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary), junior Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin), and redshirt freshman Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park). Traveling as a substitute will be sophomore Tyler Rayman (Otsego, Mich.-Otsego).

The winner will receive the MAC's automatic bid to one of six NCAA Regional sites May 12-15. The 2019 regional sites are:  Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash.; Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.; TPC Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, S.C.; University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville, Ky.; University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.; and University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas.

NCAA team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
