AURORA, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Mid-American Conference announced the postponement of the opening day of the 2019 MAC Men's Golf Championship, which was scheduled for Friday, April 26, at the 7,202-yard, par-72 Club Walden. After evaluating the weather situation and the golf course after heavy rains, the 10 participating teams will now play 36 holes on Saturday, April 27, with an 8:30 a.m. start. The final 18 holes will take place on Sunday, April 28.
Having one of the best seasons in program history, the Eagles have posted the lowest four-player team scoring average at 289.0. The tally is 1.4 strokes ahead of the 2016-17 squad's record-setting mark of 290.4. Overall, Eastern Michigan has finished in the top-five at five different tournaments this season, including a first-place finish at the EKU Raising Canes Intercollegiate, Sept. 15-16.
Individually, senior Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) leads the MAC with a scoring average of 71.67 while sophomore Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) ranks second in the league with a mark of 71.85. Both tallies are on pace to surpass the Eastern Michigan season scoring standard set by Kyle Rodes during the 2016-17 season at 72.1 strokes per round. Both are looking to become the first Eagle to take home MAC Golfer of the Year honors since 2007.
Kent State is ranked No. 89 in Golfstat's national rankings followed by Eastern Michigan (109), Ball State (138), Miami (139), Northern Illinois (140), Bowling Green (163), Toledo (169), Akron (196), and Ohio (197).
Playing this weekend for EMU will be Breault, Celone, sophomore Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary), junior Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin), and redshirt freshman Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park). Traveling as a substitute will be sophomore Tyler Rayman (Otsego, Mich.-Otsego).
