EGG-CELLENT ON EASTER: As is the case with many teams across the country, Eastern will play a game on Easter Sunday in 2019. Although the team will be hunting for wins instead of eggs, the Easter Bunny has been kind to the Eagles as of late. In each of the last four seasons, Eastern has won a game on Easter Sunday. More impressive, EMU has defeated each of its Easter opponents by one run during that span.
Most recently, the Eagles defeated Bowling Green State University, 4-3, in a game played April 1, 2018, in Bowling Green. Prior to 2018, EMU defeated Ohio, 12-11, BGSU, 5-4, and Western Michigan University, 11-10, in its three Easter matchups between 2014-17.

A POP OF POWER: Jeff Timko has redefined his presence at the plate in 2019, showing power that had yet to be displayed before this season. After knocking just 10 extra-base hits in his redshirt freshman campaign, Timko has already notched 13 hits of the variety in 2019, including four triples and four home runs, two categories in which he did not register a hit last season.
Timko's latest blast came in the form of a solo shot in EMU's midweek matchup against the University of Dayton,at Oestrike Stadium.

FIRST THINGS FIRST: It was a night of firsts for one Eagle in Eastern's midweek contest against the University of Dayton, April 16. In addition to making his first career start at Oestrike Stadium, freshman  pitcher Tyler Koons racked up five strikeouts, and tossed five innings of scoreless baseball, both firsts for the right-hander.

11 AND COUNTING: Off to his best season as an Eagle, redshirt sophomore Jeff Timko is in the midst of an 11-game hitting streak, Eastern's second-longest of the season behind Zachary Owings' 14-game stretch between March 9-30.
Timko has compiled a .395 batting average (19-for-48) during the span, dating back to March 31 against Miami University. Additionally, the standout sophomore has knocked four extra-base hits and five RBIs during his streak.

CLOSE CONNECTIONS: When Eastern matches up with Ohio for a three-game weekend series, April 19-21, it will do so not only against a Mid-American Conference foe, but against the brother of one of the best to don the Green and White in the last decade.
Jack Longo, a junior outfielder, is the brother of Lee Longo, who played at Eastern from 2011-14. Longo started 195 games over the course of his four-year career at EMU, racking up 233 hits, 148 RBIs and 17 home-runs, while tallying a .318 career batting average. Longo  was a First Team All-MAC selection in 2013, before leading the league in batting average his senior year, where he hit at a .379 clip.

TRIPLE TRACKER: While the Eastern offense has been strong in many categories throughout the season, its three-bagging efforts are especially noteworthy, both individually and as a collective unit. EMU ranks 26th nationally in triples this season (fourth in MAC), and has two players ranked in the top-30 individually. Ranking third nationally is Zachary Owings, whose five triples leads the EMU offense and ranks second in the conference. Jeff Timko, a redshirt sophomore, ranks 26th nationally with four triples on the season, good for fifth in the league.

ALL-TIME VS OHIO: When Eastern battles Ohio for the first game of a three-game weekend series April 16, at Oestrike Stadium, it will do so for the 125th time. A favorable matchup for the Eagles historically, EMU holds a 69-55 all-time record against the Bobcats.
Most recently, Eastern out-pitched Ohio en route to a 4-3 victory in a game played April 14, 2018, in Athens. Luke Devenney earned the win for Eastern while Dillon Schroeder picked up the save.

ALL ABOUT OESTRIKE: Named after legendary EMU baseball head coach Ron Oestrike, who led the Green and White from 1965-87, winning an NAIA national championship and four Mid-American Conference titles along the way, Oestrike Stadium is one of the best baseball facilities in the conference.
Opening in 1971, this year marks 49 years of play inside the park, where EMU holds a 534-384-2 all-time record. Since its opening, Eastern has compiled just 10 losing seasons at Oestrike, winning nearly 60 percent of its home games during the stretch.
With the capacity to hold 2,500 fans, Oestrike Stadium offers a fully-covered seating section, lawn-seating options, and full concessions, making it one of the best venues to enjoy a game in the MAC.

ON THE HORIZON: Following its three-game weekend series against Ohio, the Eagles will enjoy midweek rest before welcoming the University of Toledo to Ypsilanti for a three-game weekend series, Fri.-Sun., April 26-28. The series will commence Friday, April 26, at 6 p.m. with games to follow Saturday, April 27, at 3 p.m. and Sunday, April 28, at 1 p.m.
