ALLENDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team completed its penultimate regular season indoor meet Friday, Feb. 8, at the GVSU Big Meet on the campus of Grand Valley State University. The Eagles collected 12 top-five efforts and two event titles in their second trip to Allendale as athletes donning the Green and White recorded 11 career-best performances throughout the day.

Continuing his streak of success at GVSU was senior Zach Harkey (Huron, Ohio-Huron) with a weight throw of 20.14m, good for a fourth-place finish. His mark was not only his career-best throw, but the third-longest in Eastern Michigan laurels. His throw was .4m further than his previous-career-best, set at the GVSU Open earlier this season, Dec. 7, 2018. Furthermore, his performance earned him the second-best throw seen in the Mid-American Conference this season.

Junior Carlos Sanchez Juan (Onil, Spain-Ies La Creueta) marked his fourth straight podium performance with the long jump event title, clearing 7.12m. The Onil, Spain native has yet to perform a single jump that did not earn him top-10 placement in his specialty since joining the Green and White earlier this year.

Earning the Eagles' other event title was Terrell Posada (Naples, Fla.-Naples High), as the conference leader in the 60m dash once again recorded a career-best tying 6.80 effort in the sprint. Posada also added a personal-best 200m performance, earning a fourth-place finish with a time of 21.66.

EMU saw three of its 11 career-best performances in the Mile run, as senior Melika Ghali (Toronto, Canada- Jarvis Collegiate Institute), sophomore Hayelom Fitsum (Denver, Colo.-Denver School of Science and Technology), and freshman Phoenix Myers (Wattsburg, Pa.-Seneca) each logged their personal-best efforts, earning fourth, 44th, and 58th-place, respectively. Ghali cracked the top-five with a time of 4:06.61, followed by Fitsum crossing the finish line in 4:18.67 and Myers finishing in 4:41.12.

Both senior Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich.- Clinton) and sophomore Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England) compete tomorrow, Feb. 9, in the 400m at the Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. Both runners rank within the top-50 nationally in the middle-distance effort, looking to improve their status at the highly competitive meet. The event is set to begin at 3:40 p.m, marking the last appearance by an Eastern Michigan student-athlete during the 2018-19 Indoor Track regular season.

The next time the Eagles compete as a team will be at the MAC Indoor Championships, hosted by Kent State University. When available, the schedule for the conference championship meet can be found on the men's track and field schedule page on EMUEagles.com.
