EMU is set to compete in the GVSU Big Meet and Music City Challenge
ALLENDALE, Mich./NASHVILLE, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team continues its indoor season Friday, Feb. 8, when it competes in the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich. on the campus of Grand Valley State University. EMU is competing in the Big Meet for the fifth consecutive season.
Additionally, two Eagle runners will head to Nashville, Tenn. to compete in the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt University Saturday, Feb. 9. Senior Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich.-Clinton) and sophomore Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England) will both compete in the 400m.
The Green and White won last year's Big Meet behind 16 top-three finishes. Then-senior Tyler Brown earned the 400m event title with a time of 47.14, setting the 400m meet record in the process. Then-freshman Richardson added an event title finishing with a time of 21.54 in the 200m. In total, 18 Eastern Michigan student athletes posted career-bests at the 2018 rendition of the event.
EMU most recently competed in the Meyo Invitational Feb. 1-2, hosted by the University of Notre Dame. Nine career-best efforts were recorded over the two day event. Junior Terrell Posada (Naples, Fla.-Naples) and senior Nick Herbert (Portage, Mich.-Portage Northern) led the Eagles on the event's first day of competition. Posada finished second overall in the preliminary heat of the 60m dash with a time of 6.80, which was also good for the fastest time by a Mid American Conference runner this season. Herbert's personal best effort in the triple jump of 15.09m was enough for a third-place finish.
Day two of the Invitational saw Underwood and sophomore Owen Day (Ottawa, Ontario-International School of Dusseldorf) each recorded performances that were good for top-10 marks in program history. Underwood's time of 46.85 in the 400m was the eighth-fastest time ever ran by an Eagle in the event, and Day's 4:01.25 time in the mile run landed him in ninth all-time in the Eastern record books.
The Big Meet is scheduled to begin with running events at 10 a.m. Field events are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. The Music City Challenge is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. For more information regarding this weekend's events, including links to live results, visit the Men's Track and Field schedule page at EMUEagles.com.
