Eagles Fall to the Chippewas in Mount Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team fell at Central Michigan University, 195.050-192.750, in Mid-American Conference action Friday night, Feb. 15, inside McGuirk Arena.
EMU started on bars, with sophomore Cortney Bezold (Maineville, Ohio.-Bishop Fenwick) leading the charge with a 9.775. Senior Megan Hultgren (Rockford, Ill.-Sacred Heart Classical Center) and junior Emili Dobronics (Orlan Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) followed, both scoring 9.675s, as Eastern posted a 48.050 in its first rotation.
Rotation two took place on vault where Hultgren stuck the landing and posted a 9.775, followed by senior Ciara Gresham's (Shiloh, Ill.-Belleville) 9.725. Sophomore Jada Rondeau (Norwood Young America, Minn.-Central) chipped in a 9.650 for the Green and White.
Picking up the pace on floor, Dobronics crushed a 9.875 for EMU. Following the junior was Rondeau's 9.800 and senior Allie Smith's (Telford, Pa.-Souderton) 9.700.
The Eagles closed out the meet on beam, falling short of a comeback. Hultgren and Rondeau both scored 9.775s., while freshman Caitlin Satler (Orland Park, Ill. Carl Sandberg) helped the cause with a 9.725. Despite registering 48.700, the Eagles came up short against the Chippewas.
The Eagles travel to Washington, D.C. next week for the George Washington Triangular, Friday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. EMU will compete against host George Washington University, as well as Towson University.
