Eagles Still on Top at the Denison Invitational

Seven new top-10 performances were recorded on day two of the meet
GRANVILLE, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving team recorded seven new program top-10 performances along with four wins on the second day of the Denison Invitational. The Eagles remain in first place with 1,399 points.
Junior Riley Hofmann's (Ada, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) preliminaries and finals performances in the 400 IM both found a spot on the program's top-10 performance list. In the preliminaries, Hofmann recorded a time of 4:23.32, then followed up with a career-best 4:22.53 in the finals. Those times now rank ninth and sixth on the program record list, respectively.
Also in the 400 IM, junior Carlee Jones (Edgewood, Ky.-Notre Dame Academy) logged her second top-10 performance list time with a personal-best mark of 4:22.83 in the finals, good for eighth all-time.
Junior Ali Staver (Bettendorf, Iowa-Pleasant Valley) also found herself on the program's all-time performance list, winning the 100 fly preliminaries in 55.45 for a then-eighth fastest time. In the finals, Staver set a new career-best, clocking in at 55.12. Her finals mark ranks fifth all-time and moves her preliminaries mark to ninth all-time.
In the 100 backstroke, senior Claire Young (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.-Grosse Pointe South) claimed two more spots on the top-10 list. Young's time of 55.35 in the preliminaries ranks eighth all-time, while her finals-winning performance of 54.56 sits at fourth all-time. Young now holds three of the top-10 spots on the 100 backstroke list.
Also picking up wins for the Eagles were junior Alyssa Shugarman (Oswego, Ill.-Oswego) in the 200 free finals with a time of 1:49.27, and the 800 free relay team of Shugarman, senior Amelia Armstrong-Grant (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Saline), junior Meike Staffeldt (Niedersachsen, Germany), and junior Abby Rapien (Cincinnati, Ohio-Taylor) with a 7:23.02 mark.
The 2019 Denison Invitational wraps up tomorrow, Dec. 7. Following the same schedule as the past two days, preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m., diving will start at 12:30 p.m., and the finals will take place at 6 p.m.
