Eastern Michigan heads to Granville, Ohio for the four-day meet
GRANVILLE, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving team concludes the 2019 portion of its schedule beginning Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the Denison Invitational. The meet will run through Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Trumbull Aquatic Center.
The meet will begin with long course meter time trials Wednesday night. From Thursday on, the meet will follow the same format each day: preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m., followed by diving preliminaries and finals at 12:30 p.m., and conclude with the finals of each event at 6 p.m. A list of each day's events can be found on the meet's website. Eastern Michigan will face teams from Emory, Washington (St. Louis), Wayne State, and Kenyon over the course of the competition.
The Eagles head to Ohio after just short of a month away from competition, last defeating Oakland University and Florida Gulf Coast University in a home tri-meet, Nov. 9.
Senior Casey Gavigan (East Setauket, N.Y.-Ward Melville) picked up wins in the 100 and 200 backstroke for the second time this season with marks of 55.41 and 1:59.15, respectively.
The Green and White also swept 1-meter diving, with a first-place finish by senior Brielle Johnston (Ottawa, Ontario-Catholique Franco-Quest) with a score of 275.10, second-spot finish by senior Sophia Tsafantakis (Washington, Mich.-Romeo) at 267.55, and third and fourth place finishes by juniors Micaela Schempf (Bowling Green, Ohio-Bowling Green) and Bethany Berger (Batavia, Ohio-Glen Este) with scores of 252.80 and 250.00, respectively.
Live results will be available on Denison Athletics' website. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, beginning at 6 p.m., the finals for each event will be live streamed via Denison's GameCentral stream. Additionally, results will be tweeted from the team's twitter account, @EMUSwimDive.
