The Eagles are undefeated against the Warriors in 15 all-time meetings
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan women's swimming and diving team looks to continue its early success as it opens 2019 competition with a dual meet against Wayne State University Saturday, Jan. 12, at Jones Natatorium. Historically, the Eagles have seen unparalleled success against the Warriors, as they are undefeated in 15 all-time meetings.
The Green and White dip back into the water after an extended holiday break from competition, last in the pool at the Denison Invitational, Nov. 29 - Dec. 1, 2018. At the inaugural event, Eagles' swimmers marked record shattering performances, highlighted by junior Claire Young's (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.-Grosse Pointe South) pool record-setting 100 Backstroke finish. Young also taped in for the fifth-best time recorded in the Mid-American Conference this season in the 200 Back. Additionally, senior Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) swam a 2018-19 MAC-best 100 Breaststroke time of 1:00.88, while also swimming a leg in both the Eagles' 200 and 400-meter medley relay squads that topped the podium.
The Mitten State rivals last met in the 2017-18 season in Detroit, Mich., where the Eagles collected an impressive victory over the Warriors, 181-111. EMU used a strong start to easily best WSU, sweeping the podium in the first three individual events. Then-juniors Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville) and Emilie Desnoyers (St. Albert, Alberta) and then-sophomore Casey Gavigan (East Setauket, N.Y.-Ward Melville) nabbed event titles in the 1000 Freestyle, 200 Free, and 100 Back, respectively. In fact, the Green and White snagged all but two of the day's top finishes, including event wins in both the 200 Freestyle and 200 Medley relays.
Saturday's meeting of the Eagles and Warriors is set to begin at 1 p.m., with live results available on the Meet Mobile app or by clicking here. To keep up-to-date with all things EMU Swim and Dive, follow the Green and White on twitter @EMUSwimDive.
