YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team looks to close out its brief homestand at the Convocation Center against Bowling Green State University, Thursday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m.
The Eagles are coming off a home-opening win against Ball State University, 194.125-192.875, where three of four events were topped by EMU gymnasts, and junior Emili Dobronics won the all-around competition.
LAST TIME OUT: The Green and White saw its sixth-straight win over Ball State, with senior Ciara Gresham claiming the top spot in vault (9.775), and Dobronics winning floor with a score of 9.850.
EMU also had two career-bests on bars and beam. Sophomore Cortney Bezold topped her personal-best with a 9.850 on bars to finish first, while freshman Caitlin Satler finished third with her best performance yet, a 9.775 on beam. Satler helped lift Eastern to its best beam score of the season, 48.675.
Dobronics also claimed first in the all-around with a 38.925, followed by sophomore Jada Rondeau at second with 38.700.
CONTINUING TO CLIMB: Freshman Satler is seemingly only competing with herself. She once again posted personal-bests, hitting 9.775 on both beam and floor against Ball State. Both score were good for a third place finish, and her beam performance helped lift the Eagles to a season-high beam score of 48.675.
Satler was coming off a career-performance at the NIU Triangular with a 9.750 on floor, topping her 9.650 from the first meet of the season at Pitt.
IN RECENT HISTORY: EMU is looking to avenge their loss last season to BGSU, 195.025-193.950. The Green and White had won three-straight against the Falcons prior to last years loss, and have gone 4-6 in their last 10 meetings.
The last meeting between these two Mid-American Conference foes saw former Eagles Kendall Valentin and Lacey Rubin lead the way. Eastern will rely on its key returners and top freshman to get the job done.
FRESHMAN FIRSTS: Freshman Charlotte Reynolds saw her first collegiate action against Ball State. Reynolds competed in beam and posted a 9.450, tying for ninth, and looks to build from that performance this week against BGSU.
LOOKING AHEAD: Eastern will travel to the Windy City and take on the University of Illinois-Chicago Sunday, Feb. 3, at 12 p.m. The Eagles look to continue its recent success against UIC, having bested the Dragons the last two seasons.
