COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Junior Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) of the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team reeled in All-American honors for the second time of her career with her dominating performance in the 100 breaststroke at the NCAA Championships Friday, March 16, inside the McCorkle Aquatics Pavillion. Duncan's performance is also the top-place finish by a swimmer in program history.
Duncan started the day strong by breaking Eastern's 100 breaststroke record, which she had recently set at the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships, Feb. 23. Touching in at 58.36, the Galesburg, Ill. native finished right on the heels of Lily King with the second-ranked prelims time, securing her a lane in the championship heat.
In the evening session, Duncan tied her morning time of 58.36 to take fourth place to secure a spot on the podium. In her three trips to the NCAA, this marks the first time Duncan has earned a spot on the podium, as well as the highest finish by an Eagle since Kelly Hendricks took third on the 3-meter dive.
On the springboard, senior Alli Shereda (Fraser, Mich.) concluded her sensational career with a final score of 279.45, good for a 35th-place on the 3-meter. Shereda's finish was the best by an Eagles since Kelly Hendricks' third-place mark in 2013.
Duncan will conclude the season tomorrow, March 17, with the final day of the NCAA Championships. Prelims for the 200 breaststroke will take place in the mornign session, while the championship heats are scheduled for Saturday night.
