ATHENS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -
Juniors Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville) and Delaney Duncan's (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) record-breaking performances highlighted the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team's second day of competition at the Mid-American Conference Championships Thursday night, Feb. 22, in Athens, Ohio.

As a team, the Eagles stand in third place, trailing Akron and Buffalo. The Green and White holds a 51-point edge over Miami, and have accumulated a total of 221 points.

Swartz was Eastern's top finisher of the day, taking second in the 500 freestyle. The Dayton, Ohio native turned in a career-best time of 4:44.60, which is now the top time in program history. Senior Sarah Dombkowski (Canton, Mich.-Plymouth) and freshman Kaitlynd Scanlan (Waukesha, Wisc.-Pewaukee) also scored points for the Eagles. Dombkowski locked up a sixth-place finish with a career-best time of 4:49.30, while Scanlan added an 11th-palce finish.

Records continued to fall in the 200 individual medley where Duncan smashed Mary Grace Van Allen's record that was set during the 2016 MAC Championships. In her third time competing in the event, Duncan posted a career-best time of 2:01.04, becoming the EMU record holder in the event, en route to a ninth-place finish. Sophomore Claire Young (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.-Grosse Pointe South) notched a career-best time of 2:02.59 to take 11th.

A career-best time of 23.30 fueled sophomore Amelia Armstrong-Grant (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Saline) to a 12th-place finish in the 50 free. Senior Chase Walker (Virginia Beach, Va.-Landstown) and junior Stephanie Johnston (Holland, Mich.) followed right on her heels at 13th and 14th-place, respectively.

On the 1-meter, the Eagles had more divers in the session that any other school. Sophomore Brielle Johnston (Ottawa, Ontario-Catholique Franco-Quest) led the way for Eastern in the championship heat as she secured a third-place finish with a final score of 289.15. Sophomore Sophia Tsafantakis (Washington, Mich.-Romeo) and senior Alli Shereda (Fraser, Mich.-Fraser) both competed in the championship heat and finished the day with a fourth and sixth-place finish, respectively.

Eastern Michigan closed out the session with a fourth-place finish in the 200 free relay, as it was just edged out of third place with a time of 1:32.75.

The Green and White return to action tomorrow, Feb. 23, at 10:30 a.m. for prelims.
