Women Swimming and Diving Begins Competition at MAC Championships

ATHENS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team began its chase for a Mid-American Conference title Wednesday, Feb. 21, in Athens, Ohio. The Green and White currently stand in third-place through two events.
The four-day meet kicked off with the 200 medley relay, where sophomore Claire Young (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.-Grosse Pointe South) teamed up with junior Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg), Michal Liberman (Rosh Haayin, Israel-Begin), and Stephanie Johnston (Holland, Mich.) to take second-place with a season-best time of 1:38.58. The foursome shaved nearly three seconds off their seed time to edge out Buffalo.
In the 800 freestyle relay, Eastern Michigan dropped over 12 seconds off its seed time to take fifth-place. Freshman Meike Staffeldt (Niedersachsen, Germany), sophomore Amelia Armstrong-Grant (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Saline), senior Sarah Dombkowski (Canton, Mich.-Plymouth), and junior Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville) touched in at 7:20.83, holding off Bowling Green by less than two tenths of a second.
The Green and White returns to action tomorrow morning, Feb. 22, at 10:30 a.m.
