Eagles Conclude MAC Portion of Schedule Against Miami

Eastern searches for its 21st consecutive dual win over the RedHawks
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team wraps up the Mid-American Conference portion of its schedule this weekend when it faces off against the RedHawks of Miami University Saturday, Jan. 27. The Eagles, not having lost a dual to Miami since the 1995-96 season, looks to capture their 21st consecutive dual win over MU.
The Eagles are coming off a commanding, 172-101, victory over the Warriors of Wayne State University Saturday, Jan. 20. EMU locked up its 13th consecutive dual win over WSU , winning 12-of-16 events. The Green and White had 10 swimmers win at least one event, while sophomore Matan Segal (Lehavim, Israel-Hof HaShaon) paced the Eagles with two individual event wins. Segal turned in times of 1:42.92 and 1:49.07 to take the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke events, while aiding his 200 medley relay cohort to a third-place finish.
Since the inaugural meeting between MU and Eastern in the 1964-65 season, EMU has compiled a 37-10 record against Miami. Most recently, the Eagles downed the RedHawks, 188.5-110.5, in Jones Natatorium Feb. 4, 2017. Eastern won 10-of-16 events en route to the victory as Kyle Lichtenberg, Alex Chan, and then-sophomore Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary) all notched two event wins, while three other Eagles earned one win. Kawaguchi swept the back events, posting times of 49.34 and 1:47.89 in the 100 and 200, respectively. Chan was dominating on the springboard as he took the 1-meter with a final score of 369.75, before crushing the 3-meter with a then-season best score of 409.95. Meanwhile, Lichtenberg owned the distance events winning the 1000 and 500 free with times of 9:25.64 and 4:35.90, respectively.
