Oxford, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving concluded the Mid-American Conference dual portion of its schedule with a 207-93 win over Miami University Saturday, Jan. 27. With the victory, the Green and White move to 6-1 in duals this season, while locking up its 21st consecutive dual win over the RedHawks.
After the Eagles swept the top-two spots in the 200 medley relay, sophomore Tanner Olmos (Clovis, Calif.-Buchanan) turned in a season-best time of 9:34.94 to take second in the 1000 freestyle.
Junior Jake Tyson ( Ipswich, England-Northgate) and sophomore Alex Arrieta (Miami, Fla.-Doral Academy Center) notched a pair of top-three finishes in the 200 free. Tyson clocked in at 1:40.50 to take first while Arrieta finished third at 1:41.36.
Eastern Michigan saw its first sweep of the day in the 100 backstroke. Junior Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary) headed the win with a season-best time of 48.94, while sophomore Matan Segal (Lehavim, Israel-Hof HaSharon) and freshmen Chris O'Shea (Miller Place, N.Y.-Rocky Points) took second and third, respectively.
Freshman Ben Gingher (Boalsburg, Pa.-State College Area) kept EMU's winning streak alive with a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, clocking in at 56.87. Fellow freshman Ben Brooks (Avon, Ohio-Avon) touched in at 57.71, good for third-place.
Eastern Michigan continued to pull itself away from Miami with back-to-back wins in the 200 butterfly and 50 free. Sophomore Parker Saladin (Buchanan, Mich.-Buchanan) grabbed the top-spot in the 200 fly before freshman Carter Swift (Shepparton, Victoria, Australia) took first in the 50 free with a time of 20.64.
On the springboard, junior Tom Gillis (Halifax, Nova Scotia-Citadel) and sophomore Noah Galluzzo (Mexico, N.Y.) had excellent showings. Gillis won the 1-meter dive with a score of 325.20, just edging out fellow diver, senior Peter Rusenas (Naperville, Ill-Naperville Central), who notched a score of 324.67. Galluzzo took the top-spot in the 3-meter dive with a final score of 347.92, before finishing with a score of 264.75 in the 1-meter.
Turning the attention back to the pool, Swift kept the momentum alive as he won the 100 free with a time of 45.42, before Kawaguchi earned his second win of the day in the 200 back with a time of 1:46.20.
After Gingher and Hendry took first and second in the 200 breast, respectively, Saladin and Arrieta snagged a pair of top-three finishes in the 500 free. Saladin turned in a time of 4:42.03 to take second while Arrieta finished right on his heels at 4:42.49, good for third-place.
Senior Logan Burton (Chesapeake, Va.-Hickory) used a time of 48.87 in the 100 fly to take first while Kawaguchi concluded the individual events with a first-place finish in the 200 individual medley.
The Green and White capped the 207-93 win over the RedHawks with a second-place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:09.10.
