Eastern will honor five seniors prior to the meet
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team will conclude the dual portion of the 2017-18 campaign when it hosts Albion College Friday, Jan. 31, for non-conference action.
Prior to the start of Friday's meet, the Eagles will celebrate the careers of seniors Logan Burton (Chesapeake, Va.-Hickory), Connor Johnson (Fort Bragg, N.C.-Terry Sanford), Josh Kreider (Coopersburg, Pa.-Southern Lehigh), Peter Rusenas (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central), and redshirt senior Lance Bergmann (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community).
The Eagles enter the meet on the heels of a 207-93 win over Miami University in the final conference clash of the season Saturday, Jan. 27. Junior Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary) had an outstanding showing against the RedHawks locking up three individual event wins to go along with a relay victory. After sweeping the backstroke events, the junior won the 200 individual medley with a blistering time of 1:50.11, almost five full seconds ahead of the runner-up. Kawaguchi ultimately garnered CollegeSwimming.com Swimmer of the Week for the Mid-American Conference for his efforts against MU. Freshman Ben Gingher (Boalsburg, Pa.-State College Area) was also a force to be reckoned with as he snagged a pair of event wins after sweeping the breaststroke events with times of 56.87 and 2:02.52 in the 100 and 200 breast, respectively.
The Eagles own a 2-2 all-time record against Albion since their first meeting in 1964. After giving up its two losses to the Britons during Eastern's first two seasons as a program, the Eagles bounced back to win back-to-back meets over Albion during the 1966-68 seasons. However, the Green and White has fared well against Division III teams, compiling a 20-6 record, with Albion being its only opponent from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Competition at Jones Natatorium begins at 5 p.m., while Senior Day festivities will start at 4:45 p.m.. Live results for the meet can be found here, while updates are also available on MeetMobile.
