Men's Swimming and Diving Hosts Four Teams In EMU Invitational

The two-day event hosted by EMU will take place Dec. 1-2
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team is set to host Wayne State University, Tiffin University, Ball State University, and Albion College in the 32nd annual EMU Invitational this weekend, Friday-Saturday, Dec. 1-2, inside Jones Natatorium.
The invite has been a consistent source of success as the Eagles won their home meet 19 times in the past 20 years, having finished second in 2012. Most recently, EMU scored 1,247.5 points, besting second-place finisher Wayne State by over 500 points, en route to the victory. The Green and White locked up its fourth consecutive EMU Invitational title last year thanks to exceptional performances by Alex Chan, then-junior Jake Tyson (Ipswich, England-Northgate), and then-sophomores Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary) and Tom Gillis (Halifax, Nova Scotia-Citadel), who all raked in at least one win.
EMU enters the weekend coming off a commanding 193-107 win over Oakland University, Nov. 11. Senior Logan Burton (Chesapeake, Va.-Hickory), Kawaguchi, and freshmen Ben Gingher (Boalsburg, Pa.-State College Area) and Carter Swift (Shepparton, Victoria, Australia) each posted a pair of first-place finishes while Tyson and sophomore Parker Saladin (Buchanan, Mich.-Buchanan) both picked up a win en route to the victory. For his performance, Burton was named the Mid-American Conference's Swimmer of the Week after turning in the fastest time in the MAC this season in the 100 backstroke.
Action at the EMU Invitational is slated to begin Friday with the divers at 2 p.m. The swimming events are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Fans can follow along with the action here or on the MeetMobile app.
