EMU VERSUS THIS WEEKEND'S OPPONENTS: Eastern Michigan holds an 18-21-3 all-time record against this weekend's competition, having squared off with Ball State and Miami a combined 42 times.
EMU and BSU have met on the pitch 18 times, with the Eagles amassing a 7-9-2 record against the Cardinals. The Green and White lost the last two meetings and are looking for its first win over Ball State since 2014.
Miami is the only team out of the East Division that holds the lead in the all-time series with Eastern Michigan, as the Eagles are 11-12-1 against the RedHawks since the two teams first met in 1997. The Green and White came out with a 2-nil victory in the inaugural meeting, but MU has had the edge as of late. Miami has won four of the past five meetings, including handing Eastern a heartbreaking 3-2 double overtime loss last year. In that match, EMU took its first lead of the game in the 74th minute as Stef Barcelos put the Eagles in front 2-1. MU bounced back with a response in the 78th minute, before scoring with 30 seconds left on the clock in 2OT to best EMU, 3-2.
FIRST HALF GOALS...WHAT ARE THOSE?: Peyton Davis buried a shot from 25 yards out in the 37th minute against Toledo, Oct. 8. Davis' rip marked her second goal of the season and EMU's first first-half goal since Aug. 28, 2017. For the season, EMU has scored a total of 14 goals, three of which have come in the first 45 minutes of play.
EMU ON FRIDAY THE 13TH: This Friday's match between Eastern Michigan and Ball State marks just the third time the Eagles will play on Friday the 13th since the program began in 1995. EMU has gone 1-1-0 in its previous matches, falling to Western Michigan 1-nil in 2006, while cruising past Northern Illinois 5-1 in 2000.
CARDINAL CURSE: Muncie, Ind. has not been kind to the Eagles over the past 15 years, as Eastern Michigan has had trouble finding the back of the net. The Cardinals have outscored the Green and White 8-4 in the last seven meetings in Muncie. EMU has compiled a 2-4-1 record at BSU's home pitch since 2002, with both wins coming in OT.
EMU's last win in Muncie, Ind. came during the 2010 campaign when the Eagles outlasted the Cardinals, 1-nil, in overtime. Cara Cutaia netted the game-winning goal, while Monique Budani made eight saves and set Eastern's single season saves record.
EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT!: Eastern Michigan used a 108th minute goal by Peyton Davis to complete a come-from-behind win over Bowling Green, Oct. 5. The match marked EMU's fourth OT game of the season and 91st in program history. Since its first season back in 1995, EMU has compiled a 15-31-45 record in extra time.
KEEP IT KUHL MAN: Kennady Kuhlman became the latest Eagle to notch the first goal of their career, doing so against BGSU, Oct. 5. Waiting on the back post, Kuhlman headed home a service from Peyton Davis for the first goal and points of her EMU career. Overall, seven players have registered the first points of their careers this season.
DAVIS' BIG WEEKEND: Junior Peyton Davis put together the best two-game stretch of her career, Oct. 5-8. The North Ridgeville, Ohio native totaled two goals and one assist for five points. Against Bowling Green, Davis recorded an assist on the equalizer, before scoring on a rebound for her first goal of the season. Then, versus Toledo, Davis ripped a shot from 25 yards out for her second goal in as many games.
BALANCING THE BOX SCORE: Through 15 games this season, the Eagles have kept the offense fairly balanced. In fact, 12 players have recorded a point, while six different Eagles have notched both a goal and an assist this season. In all of 2016, EMU had 11 players register points and six tally both a goal and an assist.
HAVE TO CASH IN: The Green and White rank tied for fourth in the conference in shots, but have struggled to capitalize on opportunities. Eastern also ranks top in the conference in corners. Despite racking up more scoring chances than any team in the league, the Eagles are slotted 10th in goals per game.
ANOTHER NEW STARTING XI: Injuries have forced Head Coach Scott Hall to use a variety or starting lineups this season. In fact, through the first 15 games, Hall has used 10 different lineups. Most recently however, Hall put the youth at the forefront, using a starting XI that featured six freshmen against Akron. For the season, only four players have started every match; Kaylin Williams, Peyton Davis, Chanel Vani, and Madeline Olson.
WAKE ME UP WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDS: The Eagles posted a 2-5 record in the month of September. Three games into the month of October, EMU is out to a 2-1-0 mark since the calendar turned.
LEAVING HER MARK: In her first two and a half seasons donning the Green and White, Kaylin Williams has established herself as one of the top keepers in Eastern Michigan history. Ranked inside the top-five in a number of statistical categories already, Williams is in the company of former EMU greats Monique Budani, Sarah Willis, Megan McCabe, and many others. The Kansas City, Mo. native is currently slotted sixth in shutouts (8), seventh in saves (211), and eighth in goals against average (1.54), while her 604 shots faced rank third all-time.
OFFSIDES OFFENDERS: Eastern Michigan has been whistled offsides 40 times through 15 games this season, the most of any team in the Mid-American Conference. In fact, the Eagles were called offsides nine times in their season opener against Illinois State, Aug. 18. EMU's nine miscues against ISU alone would rank tied for 12th with Kent State.
ALL ABOUT THAT #MACTION: Eastern Michigan is in its 20th season competing in the Mid-American Conference this weekend. The Eagles have compiled a 109-67-25 record in league play and are looking to claim their fourth MAC title, and first since 2013. Eastern was the 1999, 2003, and 2013 MAC Regular Season Champion, while EMU was the West Division Champion in 2013 and 2014.
WILLIAMS JOINS THE 200-SAVE CLUB: Junior goalkeeper Kaylin Williams has become a mainstay in between the pipes for the Eagles since the start of the 2015 season. After amassing 64 saves as a true freshman due to Megan McCabe's nagging injuries, Williams bounced back with 81 saves in 2016 as EMU's starting keeper. So far this season, Williams' second as the Eagles' starter, she has racked up 66 stops, pushing her career total to 211. A five-save effort versus Buffalo, Sept. 29, made the Kansas City, Mo. native the program's seventh member of the 200-save club.
THE ELDER STATESMAN: Entering his 19th season at the helm of the Eagles, Head Coach Scott Hall is the longest tenured women's soccer coach in the Mid-American Conference. Hall had been the second-longest tenured coach, but following Bobby Kramig's resignation after 34 years leading the Miami RedHawks, Aug. 4, Hall took over the top spot. Hall's three MAC Regular Season titles are tied atop the most in conference history.
ON THE HORIZON: Eastern Michigan returns to the friendly confines of Scicluna Field for week five of MAC play, Oct. 19-22, for a pair of MAC West showdowns. The Eagles host in-state foe Western Michigan Thursday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m. before taking on Northern Illinois, Oct. 22, for senior day.
