The Green and White are set to return to Notre Dame for the tenth consecutive year

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — After a brief break from competition, the Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team returns to the course Friday, Oct. 2, at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational. The Eagles have attended this race annually since 2006, and look to continue their success against a talented field of participating teams.

The last time out, the Eagles ran against a duo of Big Ten Conference teams in No. 10 Michigan and No. 16 Michigan State, at the Spartan Invite, Sept. 18. Redshirt sophomore Abel Flores (Defiance, Ohio - Defiance) led the Eagles with a 35th place finish out of 390 runners, while fellow redshirt sophomore Mitch Lenneman (River Falls, Wis. - River Falls) and graduate student Cameron Trinh (Oakland, Calif. - Skyline) also placed in the top-100, crossing the finish line in 67th and 89th place, respectively.

Additionally, freshmen Morgan O'Flahrity (Madison, Wis. - Edgewood), Brenden Utz (Jackson, Mich. - Michigan Center), Adam Beck (Rochester Hills, Mich. - Rochester Hills), Alec Keaton (Allen Park, Mich. - Allen Park), and Christian Lopez (Moreno Valley, Calif. - Vista Del Lago) continue to gain experience, as all five of them have ran in at least two races so far this season. While the team has yet to run many of their top harriers, the team continues to build depth for later in the season.

This year, the field is full of experienced teams, including No. 18 Arizona State, Bradley, No. 26 Colorado State, No. 28 Eastern Kentucky, Florida, Illinois State, Indiana State, Iowa, IUPUI, Missouri, Navy, No. 27 NC State, No. 17 New Mexico, Notre Dame, Penn, Purdue, No. 23 Southern Utah, Texas A&M, UC Santa Barbara, and UTEP. The 2:45 p.m. race will be held at Burke Memorial Golf Course, with the men running a five-mile race.
