Women's Golf Opens the Season at the Mary Fossum Invitational

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team kicks off its 2015 fall campaign, Sept. 12-13, when it travels to East Lansing, Mich. for the 32nd Annual Mary Fossum Invitational. The course will be set up as a par-72, playing to the distance of 6,236 yards at the Forest Akers West Golf Course.
 
The tournament will also mark the debut of new Head Coach Pina Gentile. Scheduled to compete for the Green and White are redshirt-senior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School), junior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth), redshirt-senior Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo), sophomore Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) and freshman Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School). Playing as an individual and making her EMU debut will be freshman Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval).
 
The event marks the fifth-consecutive year that the Green and White has opened up its season in East Lansing and the eight-straight year that the Eagles have competed in the invitational. EMU's best finish came in the 2011-12 season when the team took eighth overall, shooting a 942 (304-317-321), while the Eagles finished 10th during the 2013-14 campaign, carding a three-round score of 934 (311-309-314).
 
The event will feature a 12-team field highlighted by six Mid-American Conference institutions. Teams competing in the 32nd Annual Mary Fossum Invitational include: Eastern Michigan, Akron, Central Michigan, Ferris State, Grand Valley, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oakland, Ohio University, Toledo, Tulane, Western Michigan
 
The tournament will kick off Saturday, Sept. 12, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start for the first round with round two following immediately after. The Eagles will conclude the invitational Sunday, Sept. 13, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
