EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team opened up its 2015 fall season as well as the Head Coach Pina Gentile era at the Mary Fossum Invitational on the par 72, 6,334-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course. The Eagles sit in seventh-place after two rounds of the invite Saturday, Sept. 12, shooting a 622 (311-311).
Redshirt-senior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) paced the Green and White on day one, shooting a two-round score of 153 (77-76) to sit in a tie for 22nd overall. Meanwhile, sophomore Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) carded a 155 (75-80) to tie for 26th after the opening 36-holes.
Junior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) shot a 156 (80-76) in 31st, while freshman Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) made her collegiate debut with a 158 (79-79) in 41st-place. Rounding out the lineup, redshirt-senior Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo) posted identical rounds of 86 for a 172 in 68th.
Freshman Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) played as an individual, shooting a 159 (80-79) in the first two rounds of action, tying for 43rd overall.
The University of Notre Dame holds the lead, shooting 589 (297-292), four shots ahead of Tulane who carded a 593 (301-292).
The third and final round of the Fossum Invitational is set for 8:30 a.m. on Sunday with live scoring available at birdiefire.com.
