Kelsey Murphy Paces the EMU Attack at Fossum Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team recorded its best all-time showing at the Mary Fossum Invitational Sunday, Sept. 13, as the squad took sixth-place with a two-day total of 939 (311-311-317) on Forest Akers West Golf Course. Playing in the event for the eighth-straight year, the Eagles previous best team finish came in the 2011-12 season when the team took eighth overall, shooting a 942 (304-317-321).
Leading the way for the Green and White was junior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) who carded a 72 on the final 18 holes. The Plymouth, Mich. native finished the 54-hole tournament at 12-over 228 (80-76-72) to place in a four-way tie for 15th-place. Sathika Ruenreong of the University of Toledo took home individual medalist honors with an even-par 216 (75-69-72).
Sophomore Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) followed for EMU shooting a 76 this afternoon, as she finished in a three-way tie for 22nd with a final score of 15-over 231 (75-80-76). Redshirt-senior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) finished with a 235 (77-76-82) in 34th while freshman Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) took 52nd with a 246 (79-79-88).
Redshirt-senior Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo) carded an 87 on the final day to finish in 66th with a 259 (86-86-87). Competing as an individual, freshman Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) notched a total of 246 (80-79-87) in her collegiate debut.
Eastern Michigan will compete next at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State University in Yorktown, Ind., Sept. 21-22.
