Women's Golf Set for Cardinal Classic

YORKTOWN, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team is set to compete in the 2015 Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State University at The Players Club in Yorktown, Ind. The tournament begins Monday, Sept. 21, with a 36-hole, 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. On Tuesday, Sept. 22, the event wraps up with an 18-hole, 9 a.m. shotgun start.
The Players Club is a Par 72 and plays at 6,204 yards.
The 17 teams competing in this year's Cardinal Classic are Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Cleveland State, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Indiana State, Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Northern Illinois, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, Ohio, Western Illinois, Western Michigan and Xavier.
Competing for EMU in the tournament will be junior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth), redshirt senior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School), sophomore Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne), freshman Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) and freshman Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School).
Last year, the Eagles used a playoff to capture the 2014 Cardinal Classic championship. EMU and Western Michigan were tied through the regulation 36 holes at the 16-team tournament. Each team sent five players out to play a one-hole sudden death playoff. The Eagles edged the Broncos by two strokes to claim their first title of the 2014 fall season.
Individually, Lee Ping finished as the runner-up with a two-day tally of 146 (73-73). WMU's Chloe Lawrie claimed medalist honors with a one-over 145 (72-73).
Following the Cardinal Classic, the Eagles will be competing in The Preview in Noblesville, Ind., Oct. 11-12.
