Women's Golf In Second After Opening Day of Cardinal Classic

YORKTOWN, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team sits in second place after the first two rounds of play at the 2015 Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State University at The Players Club Monday, Sept. 21.
The Eagles carded a first round 301 and followed it up with a round of 293 to finish the opening day with a 594, 22 shots behind leader Eastern Kentucky (572). The Eagles are just two shots in front of third-place Northern Illinois. Becky Sharpe and Sofie Levin of EKU lead the field with a 142.
Junior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) paced the Eagles contingent with a 145, good for a fifth place tie. The Plymouth, Mich. native cut three strokes from her first round total of 74 in her second look at the course.
Freshman Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) is tied for 10th with a 147 (74-73) while sophomore Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) followed closely with a 148 (76-72) in 13th. Freshman Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) and redshirt senior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) rounded out the lineup with a 154 (77-77) and a 156 (78-78), respectively.
The Eagles return to the course Tuesday, Sept. 22, for the final round of play. Shotgun start is set for 9 a.m. Fans can follow all the action live on golfstat.com.
