Eagles Drop Home-Opener to North Dakota

Myranda Barnes and Taylor Wagner each recorded three hits in the doubleheader
The Eagles were led by Myranda Barnes and Taylor Wagner who paced the Green and White's offense with four hits on the day. Michelle Kriegshauser was solid at the plate as well, going 3-for-5 on the afternoon and belted her third homer of the season in game one. Kriegshauser had a pair of RBI and runs scored in the first game as well. Lindsay Rich and Haley Hostetler each recorded a homer in the nightcap for the Eagles.
Nicole Babrowski led North Dakota's offense with three hits in the doubleheader, all coming in the nightcap. Shelby Hard belted her team-best 10th home run of the season in the first game for UND.
Game One: North Dakota 5, Eastern Michigan 4
North Dakota used a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning to get out to the 2-0 lead over Eastern Michigan, but the Eagles responded in the bottom half of the inning when Kriegshauser blasted a two-run homer to knot the score at 2-2.
UND led off the ensuing inning with walk and a two-out hit batter before Jackie Lilek lined a double to the center field wall to bring in two more runs to take the 4-2 advantage in the second.
A lead off single in the bottom of the fourth put Clark on first before a sacrifice bunt moved pinch runner Elaine Whitbeck to second base. Whitbeck moved 60 ft. from home on a groundout before touching home on a hard hit ball to second base by Myranda Barnes.
Again, North Dakota answered back with a run in the top of the fifth inning when Michigan native Shelby Hard blasted a home run over the right center fence to extend the UND lead to 5-3.
Eastern Michigan came within one of North Dakota in the bottom of the seventh when Kriegshauser single to second base and moved to third on a groundout and a foul ball to deep right field. The sophomore outfielder came home on an illegal pitch as the Eagles trailed 5-4 with two outs. Pinch hitter Taylor Wagner singled through the left side of the field to keep the EMU rally going, but UND recorded the final out it needed to close out the 5-4 victory.
Game Two: North Dakota 6, Eastern Michigan 5 (8 inn.)
Rich helped herself with a homerun over the right center field in the bottom of the second inning to give EMU the 1-0 lead over North Dakota in game two.
UND took advantage of two hit batters and a single through the left side of the field to load the bases before Dendinger laced a single to the opposite field to knot the score at 1-1 with one out. The Eagles used a hard hit ball back to Rich to turn a double play and close out the inning before any further damage could be done, leaving the score tied at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the third game.
The Green and White took back the lead in the bottom of the third when pinch runner Angel Schilke stole second and crossed home on an overthrow by the catcher to put EMU up 2-1 over North Dakota.
With runners in scoring position, Waynick singled to right center to bring in UND's first run of the inning before a shallow single to the edge of the right field grass allowed North Dakota to take a 3-2 lead over Eastern. UND added a third run with a suicide squeeze, extending its lead to 4-2 in the top of the fourth inning.
Eastern battled in the bottom of the sixth when Wagner led off the inning with a single to right field before H. Hostetler drove a two-run homer over the left center fence to tie the score for the second time in the contest, 4-4.
Heading into extra innings with the international tiebreaker rule in effect, North Dakota scored on an error up the first base line before notching a second run with a double to left center to go up 6-4 for with half an inning to play.
Davidson was placed on second for the Green and White and advanced to third on a groundout before a single through the left side of the field plated the sophomore third baseman to bring EMU within one with one out. A hard hit ball back to the pitcher turned into a double play to close out the contest with UND taking the 6-5 victory.
Eastern Michigan will go back on the road Friday, March 20 when it heads to Lawrence, Kan. for the Kansas Tournament. The Eagles will first take on host Kansas Friday, March 20 at 1 p.m. before concluding the tournament with games against Georgia State and UMKC.
