Former Softball Player Amanda Stanton Passes Away

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Amanda Stanton (Homer Glen, Ill.-Lockport Township), who earned four letters for the Eastern Michigan University softball team from 2011-14, passed away Sunday, June 24, in Oswego, Ill. She was 26 years old.
A two-time Academic All-Mid-American Conference selection, Stanton was also a two-time MAC West Division Player of the Week honoree. She put together an outstanding season as a junior, hitting .321 at the plate, while leading the Green and White in slugging percentage (.586), runs scored (29), RBIs (39), doubles (11), home runs (8), and total bases (82).
Named First Team All-MAC in 2013, Stanton is one of six players in program history to hit multiple home runs in a game and ranks sixth in EMU single season laurels with 39 RBIs. Additionally, Stanton's 14 home runs rank tied for 12th-most in EMU annals, while her 77 career runs batted in are slotted tied for ninth.
Stanton came to Eastern Michigan after an outstanding prep career at Lockport Township High School in Lockport, Ill. A four-year letterwinner, The Homer Glen, Ill. native led Lockport Township to four straight conference titles. Holding a .400 batting average her senior year, Stanton reeled in all-conference and all-area honors.
Most recently, Stanton served as the head coach of the Oswego High School girls softball team and was a Strategic Math Specialist at Jefferson Junior High School in Naperville, Ill.
The funeral is scheduled for Monday, July 2, at 9:45 a.m. from Richard J. Modell Funeral Home & Cremation Services (12641 W. 143rd St., Homer Glen, Ill.) to St. Bernard Church for mass at 10:30 a.m. Visitation is Sunday, July 1, from 2 to 8 p.m.
