The Green and White will attempt to qualify to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2002

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — After taking home their sixth consecutive conference title, the Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team will travel to Madison, Wis. for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, Friday, Nov. 13. The team will look to finish in the top-two in order to receive an automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Championships.

Two weeks ago at the Mid-American Conference Championships, the Eagles had a banner performance, as they took home the team title for the 20th time while junior Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. - Mason) was crowned the individual champion. Senior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio - Maumee), the 2014 MAC Champion, finished second, just five seconds behind Raymond. Additionally, the Eagles placed three other harriers in the top ten, as sophomores Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium-Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven) and Csaba Matko (Racalmas, Hungary-Szechenyi Istvan Gimnazium), as well as redshirt sophomore Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland-Mountain Ridge), claimed sixth, eighth, and ninth, respectively.  Ultimately, the Green and White had three First-Team All-MAC honorees, as well as four Second-Team All-MAC selections.

Head Coach John Goodridge, who was named the MAC Coach of the Year for the 10th time in his career, is excited to have his team resume competition following continued training and improvement. When discussing the event, he stated, "I'm pleased with our training since the Conference Championships, which has confirmed our continuing improvement and fitness. The conference result was a nice affirmation and confidence booster for quite a few individuals who have emerged this season."

The field of teams in attendance is highlighted by No. 5 Michigan, as well as No. 30 Indiana, Michigan State, and Purdue. In addition, fellow MAC schools Akron, Bowling Green, Kent State,  Miami, Ohio, and Toledo will also be in attendance. The men's race will be a 10,000-meter race, and will take place at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. The event will begin at Noon with the women's race, while the men are slated to start at 1 p.m. For more information on the event, please click here.
